Hi GUys,

its been a while, I know... but we're still here.

We need some tips...Michelle has been offered a job in Manchester and as neither of us have ever lived in the UK before we need your advice!
What is Manchester like? Is it a good place to live? Whats the cost of living there eg rent prices? Will it be a problem to bring our A2 over?... we can leave it as registered in Germany or are the police very strict about this?
Basically anything you can tell us......
What is the job situation in general like in the area ( Thomas would have to start looking for something)?
WE'd be grateful for any tips that you could give us.....
have a nice weekend...

Manchester is a great place, my wife and I go there often as we have friends there.
Great restaurants, bars and shopping; and unlike London, it's possible to live affordably within 15 minutes of the centre of town! Plus everyone seems to be more relaxed and happy, unlike in London!

I'm not sure about the regulations of having a German registered car permanently in the UK. You'd have to check or contact http://www.dvla.gov.uk/welcome.htm and see if there are some guidelines on it. I suspect that you can probably get away with it for a little while.

As for property and cost of living, have a look at: http://fish4.co.uk/homes/index.html and then: http://www.upmystreet.com

Thnaks Stuart for the tips...we'll certainly have a look at the sites....we're not so sure that its a good idea anyway to drive around with a german number plate.....isn't it just an invitation to damage the car.....

Michelle/Thomas,

Calm down - Based on the ';)' in Jeff's post I think he's just winding you up.

Of course we have a sense of humour. We wouldn't live here either if we didn't have to. Thomas..as a german..has to defend himself against the Dutch...its an age old thing between the germans and the dutch!!! Not that we don't like Dutch people...our best friend is Dutch..from Assen...although he has to suffer the same fate. I mean what have the Dutch to scream about..they can't play football and have holes in their cheese!!! Fun will be 2006 for the World Cup ; when Holland beats England to get to the final against Germany!!!
( Its all just in fun!!)

Thomas - as someone who works for Manchester City Council, all I can say from a slightly biassed viewpoint is that Manchester is one of the most happening cities I know of. If you do move to the best city in the UK be sure to pop in and say hello!

Just read on teletext tonight that the go-ahead for a 560-odd foot residential towerblock has been given. Posh penthouses etc. Some sight that will be in Manchester.
