Hi I've just had my A2 remapped to 110 bhp and its awesome. If I tell my insurance though deos anyone how much they would up it by?

Many thanks

Maybe you should have told them first!

I found my insurance company refused cover and so had to go to Llyods Insurer via Adrian Flux. Extra £100 for a 20 bhp increase (75 to 95). Most of the mainstream insurance companies dont seem to want to provide cover and the lower cost internet applications only want bog standard cars.

Nice thumb print. I'm yet to insure the car as its locked away in the garage. So I guess i'll get some quotes and take it from there. Thanks.

My company specialise in modified car insurance, feel free to call us on 0208 3645500 if you insurer cannot cope we the remap (a lot of insurers cannot).

Thanks

An old thread I know.
Should the insurance company be told?
Has this been covered before?
Had a quick look but only found this thread.

Non disclosure can completely void your insurance.

No it can't. It may well however reduce your cover to the legally required minimum, and place you at risk of having your policy cancelled.

Many insurance companies, particularly big name mainstream ones, don't want to cover vehicles that have been remapped. So check with your insurer beforehand, and if necessary switch to a more sympathetic insurer.

2 years ago I insured a modified car with Sainburys and last year switched to LV= . I was surprised these larger companies did modified and the premiums were reasonable and less than Adrian Flux who I was with for about 10 years. With LV= I recall trying to match one of my unusual mods to a whole list of categories/example mods. Some resulted in a decline so back tracked and picked another!

Thanks for this I will try them. My issue is modified AND business use (the car is my chariot for work meetings).

Well @steve_c quoting from my above posting.....

If you don’t declare all modifications to your insurer and later need to make a claim, your policy could be declared invalid. The insurer may refuse to pay out or give you a reduced rate...

Hence my statement "Non disclosure can completely void your insurance."

Another thing to bear in mind is this site is not private. So the same as employers are continuously trawling social media and sites looking for content about current or prospective employees. Does not take much to also think insurance companies do the same looking for evidence of non disclosure i.e. any excuse not to pay out.

There are definitely a few topics now that must be treated as "the first rule of fight club"

It can't. It can reduce your insurance to the legally required 3rd party minimum, but that can't be declared void. The Road Traffic Act 1988 is very clear on that, and it makes good sense that 3rd parties can't be refused a pay-out because of a prior failure to disclose information to the insurer. However unroadworthy the vehicle, however unqualified or unfit the driver, it makes no difference. If the vehicle concerned has insurance in place at the time of an accident, valid 3rd party claims must be settled by the insurer.

Taking this slightly off topic I was surprised to learn when visiting New Zealand that a WOF (their MOT) includes a charge that provides third party insurance for the vehicle for any legitimate driver. Sounds like a sensible idea.
I've found that some mods and some insurers are no issue at all . Bike insurers seem mostly ok I can mod my classic 1100cc bike pretty much as much as I like but could I get a slightly slow 125 insured if I altered it to 149cc . Gave up in the end.

Also be careful not providing a quote is not the same as having insurance refused.

I am with Admiral and when I was setting up the insurance online, going through the form there was a small tick box 'Engine modification/chip'. It didn't seem to make much difference to the quote.

Both of my A2’s are heavily modified and admiral have covered on a multi car policy without issue

How much do you pay with multi car policy?
I have a pair of a2’s was thinking about going through them putting them both on same policy if it works out to be no much more then what I’m currently paying
