power steering and oil can sensor warning light

The joys of motoring

I started up the other day and that warning noise everyone loves to hate sounded, followed by the Power Steering and oil sensor warning light flashing.
Then I set off and it reminded me of my first car MkII Escort Sport with 205s on, to be honest I think the steering is harder on the A2 without power assistance. There was no symptom at all before this the car was running great. Its my day of tomorrow weather permitting, I will check the fluid level (I think thats a light out job), put the Vag com on it and give it a coat of looking at and report my findings.

Anyone else had this issue?

Due to the none stop rain I could do nothing outside today. The power steering light is coming on then the engine oil sensor and I have no power steering at all. I have carried out a scan and the faults are -

1 Fault Found:
18062 - Please check DTC Memory of Instrument Cluster
P1654 - 35-10 - - Intermittent
Readiness: 0 0 1 1 1

2 Faults Found:
01309 - Power Steering Control Module (J500)
49-00 - No Communications
00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature (G266)
30-00 - Open or Short to Plus

(If this weather doesn't stop I'm selling and building and Ark)

Has anyone had any similar faults?

Cheers

I have just had the same problem on my 04 Tdi 90
I had driven about 3 miles from home when Yellow oil sensor warning light came on
I pulled over and took the bonnet off and I could not see any problems
Restarted the car and the Yellow power steering warning light came on
and the steering reminded me of my Cortina 1600e NO Power steering
Tony ( hotshuff) had the car in his work shop im Milton Keynes
When he replaced fuse 38 the work shop filled with smoke from the G65
Air con pressure sensor
Tony ordered a replacement sensor from Audi and the part had a few updates from the original sensor
I dont know if this is just a problem with Tdi 90's but sensor part number is the same on all A2's with air con
Just go very careful if you have this problem.Perhaps you could disconnect the wiring from the sensor before you replace the fuse

Not had the power steering light on but had the oil sensor warning. Replaced the sensor and everything is now fine, but the sensor for the TDI is around £80 !!!!

Hey,

I had this over the weekend driving back form work...the AC was also not working, but it was too much of a coincidence that all three electronic components failed the same time. Also when this happened, my speedo went dead, but not the other instruments on the dash. So I decided to check the fuse. Indeed one of the fuses had blown (the AC) which resulted in the no comms on the power steering and the apparent faulty oil sensor. All is well now :)

Hi
I've had similar problem which ended up being a failed seal in the power steering rack.
It started out being intermittent where the steering occasionally got extremely tough, then got progressively worst.
If it is a leaky steering rack and your doing it yourself please remember to lock your steering to avoid steering angle sensor problems.
