Things to Consider

If you’re looking at doing a swap, there are various things to consider. Of course you’ll need a donor vehicle with the same colour interior. It’ll also need to have rear speakers if your car has got rear speakers, unless you’re happy to modify the door looms to carry audio.

The donor vehicle's CCCU will need to be able to control the rear door locks directly, as it will end up with manual windows and no door control modules. Some CCCU versions are not able to control the rear door locks directly. CCCUs that are able to control the rear door locks themselves (and are therefore suitable for use in cars with manual rear windows) include:

8Z0 959 433 Q
8Z0 959 433 P
8Z0 959 433 M
8Z0 959 433 N
8Z0 959 433 AH
8Z0 959 433 AF
8Z0 959 433 AC

A donor vehicle with a CCCU version from the list above is best. However, cars with a CCCU version other than one listed above can still be used as a donor vehicle, but the CCCUs will also need to be swapped, correctly coded and adapted, and have the appropriate keys re-matched. Note that all CCCUs are able to work in cars with rear electric windows and 4 door control modules.

Audi changed the connector type at both the A- and B-pillars at some point early in the A2's production run, so be aware of this potential complication. Audi also changed the pin arrangements in the later-style connectors, so if the donor vehicle isn’t of the same model year, there may be some swapping about of pins required in the B-pillar connectors. The total job cannot be done without a set of terminal extraction tools.

Although I’ve condensed it into less text than I first anticipated, don’t be fooled: this is a big job with many stages.

If you've already got all the tools needed, the job can be done for about £40 in parts, so long as no new connectors are purchased. It's certainly miles cheaper than attempting a retro-fit using parts, new or second hand. Should anyone be interested in retro-fitting rear electric windows, by any route, please feel free to contact me for help and assistance.

Cheers,

Tom
