Powersteering Sensor G250 Error - 1.4 se

Hey guys,

My sis's bought her car to me today with a yellow steering symbol in the dash. I plugged in my trusty VCDS and it came with a G250 sensor issue.So feeling all cocky and what not, I stripped the car and started to look for the sensor, and guess what, it aint there and the plug on the PS pump is blocked off.

Suffice to say im a tad confused, is there another sensor elsewhere?

The car is a 2001 1.4 se petrol, and the steering still actually works, so if i can find this dam sensor i will be a happy bunny!

Can anyone help.
 
Page 26 of this document indicates that the G250 sensor will eventually be omitted and the signal from G85 sensor will be used for the same function. Not sure when this happened or if you can still get a fault code for the G250 even though its been replaced by the G85.

Ive ordered a G85 sensor just to try, noticed the plug was a bit loose on the pump so ive sprayed good ole WD40 and plugged it back in!
 
I highlighted the G250 issue just in case your car did not have the sensor fitted. Not sure what you have ordered but G85 is the steering angle sensor fitted behind the steering wheel.

Mine hasnt got the G250 sensor at all, thats why I ordered a cheapy G85 (SAS) of ebay to see if that could help me.

OK, I was concerned that my comments about the G250 had been misleading buy I can see you know what you are doing.

Hello, sorry to hijack this post but my problem is pretty much the same. My wife's power steering pump failed so I bought a second hand wich was originally fitted on a Fabia. It works in "limp mode" and pops a "00816 - Power Steering Sensor (G250) 36-00 - Open Circuit" error. While searching on the web I found that only a few batches were fitted with this sensor(this search pointed me to this forum) while the Fabia always had it.
So, tu summ it up, do you know a way to reprogam, recode or whatever the pump so that it doesn't use the input from G250 sensor?

Hi and welcome to the A2oc
I don't know the answer but found some info which may help
. A2s have a unique pump with an 8Z0...... part number. The same pump appears to be used for cars with both the old (G250) and new (G85) steering angle sensor systems
. Power steering is part of the ABS system and the only coding appears to be for Address 03 - ABS brakes - code 10758
. Only other setting required is Zero position compensation for the G85 steering angle sensor.

Hi , thanks for the advice but either I'm doing it wrong or the car needs me to log in first. When I try to change the coding from 0007175 to 10758 vag-com tells me that coding should be at least 7 digits worth so I tried adding 0s (0010758) but the coding remains the same and the DTC is still displayed.
I called the scrap yard to ask them for a refund or a different pump but I got turned down. So this means I have to get this one in a working condition.
 
Update: recoding of the ABS unit still didn't do anything to my problem. The sensor error is listed at address 17(instruments). When I try to access address 44 wich is steering asist it shows "use address 17"( but in german). Login code for instruments is not the default one (12233). I don't know what to do. I'll try my local dealer and see what they have to say about it but the way it look I just lost 250E.

My car has a G250 fault too, even though it never had a G250 sensor fitted (steering rack has a blank casting where the G250 would go). I suspect mine has a Skoda or Polo pump fitted so i've ordered an A2 replacement. Whilst investigating I turned up the following info from ELSA that may help people in future:


The A2 had two versions of the ABS/ESP System depending on the year. These were the Mk20 and the Mk60. You ccan find the info below in the VCDS .lbl files.

The different part suffixes tell you which one your car has. A, B for MK20 and C,D for MK60 as follows:

8Z0-907-379-MK20.LBL,8Z0-907-37?-A ; MK20
8Z0-907-379-MK20.LBL,8Z0-907-37?-B ; MK20
