Wheel Bearing Nut Sizes.

Socks

Hi,

I have to ease the rear drums for the MoT as there is a slight binding. Simple enough but to remove the drums to clean etc. I have to remove the central 12 point nut that needs a special tool to be turned. I'm happy to buy the special socket tool but have no way of knowing the size. The front may be similar but of different dimension.

What sizes are fitted to A2's front and rear?

Hope someone can help?

Regards,

Socks.

Front hub nut needs a 36mm 12 point socket to remove.
The nut MUST be renewed on re-assembly - not sure of the torque figure.
Hope that helps.

You don't need to remove the nut to release the drums. Just remove the wheels and then the small screw that holds the drum to the hub.
You may find that the drums are a bit tight to remove. I found a tap or two with a hide-faced hammer did the trick. There is supposed to be a self adjusting mechanism. In my case this clearly was not working as there was plenty of clearance between the drum and shoes. Other people have found that there is not enough clearance to enable easy removal of the drums.

You only need to remove the centre nut if you want to change the rear hub/bearing assembly. If you do want to do this, it is a 30mm socket you want - 12 point.
