My glove box light went... now as this stupid thing only works when the lights are on it is of little use anyway but still I want it to work... so bought the 50p bulb from Audi... has anyone ever tried to fit one? It is basically impossible!!! It is behind an entire panel that needs the glove box lid removed first it seems!!! Daft de luxe! And as my car is out of warranty Audi wants to charge over £60 for the fitting including labour... so it will just stay dark!!! Grrr...

You can easily (ahum - whatever you find easy, Johan [8)]) access the whole light assembly by removing the entire glovebox.
It's been described before, somewhere on here, but here are a few pointers:
- get yourself a correct torx screwdriver. Should be Torx 30, I think
- dive in the passenger footwell and find two screws. One obvious, one hidden just behind the edge of the side kickpanel, You might want to remove that too, but pressing it inwards will work too.
- open the glovebox and remove the useless coin-holder. Pry it up or down (keep forgetting) with a flat screwdriver or just use your bare hands.
- behind it is one of the 3 torx screws that need loosening on the inside of the box.
- take 'em all out, and slide out the box by pulling it towards you. Wiggle it a bit too, whatever is needed.
- at some point it will not go any further because the connector for the light assembly is too short. Unclip it.

From there on you can replace the bulb and work backwards again. Hardest parts in reassembling it will be that connector and more so: the screw behind the kickpanel. Don't loose the screw in the space behind it! If it does fall, you'll certainly have to remove it. That involves some bending and pulling but it'll stand it, believe me. Done it several times now. Just keep an eye on where everything goes...

Last time I did this was to shove my GPS receiver up the dashboard, just below the passenger vent on the side.

Good luck!

I thought you just screwdriver a gap to remove the plastic cover and replace it ?

Well, I'd think so too, but since I assume that Johann went for this obvious route, AND since I thought that I saw that the bulb was easily accessible with the glovebox removed.

But, Johann, take note of IQ's comment. If you haven't already done so, try to pry off the clear cover from the inside [8)]
