Could someone enlighten me.....

Cheers Bret. Just been out and gingerly withdrew it from the foam. There are two parts. A battery and magic box. With no apparent connections to anything other than power.

Here's a link to the device itself. I think, What is it, just some sort of ECU memory saver? And why the wire spiral? There's one on ebay for an Audi A8 too.

could it be a driving monitor for insurance discount ? usually young drivers. interesting though...

Aha! tracker it is then. I found a post on a French Elise forum with exactly the same device. I assume it is useless unless I'm paying a subscription?

When I bought my A2 from a dealer at 8 months old it had been fitted already with a tracker. The tracker documentation that came with the vehicle said one would get a insurance discount if fitted. So I paid the lifetime fee to renewal. When I applied for insurance cover nobody would give me a discount. I was told that discounts only applied to prestige cars - so A2's aren't prestige then :(

I read somewhere that trackers are not fitted in the same location on all cars so as to not make it easy to find them if the car is stolen. Mind you, I haven't looked under my carpets. Also, I recall, the batteries have to be renewed after 10 years - mine's coming up to it's 10th anniversary - must bake a cake and have a party ;)
