Airbag servicing

Just had a look at my A2 manual today and saw a note that airbags need servicing after 14 years which for me means next year. Has anyone done this before?

Any idea how much it costs and if it's crucial to do it as I am a bit short on cash after buying a flat last year.

Thanks

I seem to remember Audi massively revised this figure, basically saying that they were being over cautious and that the airbags ought to be fine for many decades. It was Spike who found the info, so hopefully he'll see this and find it again. He is, after all, the Master of Search! :)

Cheers,

Tom

This issue was discussed at an 'HONESTJOHN' online forum last year (see link below). I think the cost of replacing an airbag (Audi A3) at Audi is £300+, but don't know if this figure applies to the A2, or whether Audi can simply service rather than replace the device. Regardless, there is a company called 'airbagman' that seems to a 'service' airbags, presumably at reduced cost. Never used them though, so it may be worth looking for Google reviews.
