Ragtop Sunroof to replace OSS?

2001 A2 TDI faulty OSS, one cable snapped - has anyone thought about or knows whether it would be possible to remove the two faulty sliding glass panels with a sliding ragtop (like the Fiat 500). Keeping the main frame and structural integrity along with the and front/rear panels ?

There`s a firm in Brighton that specialises in Webasto roofs for vintage and newer cars.
Maybe they could adapt the one fitted to the VW Polo Open Air model to go in the gap.

Not an option Rob unfortunately.
The folding roof that you refer to requires its operating mechanism on either side to allow it to slide. With the OSS partially remaining in the A2, you would not be able achieve this requirement. Also, the slide mechanism must be beneath the roof turret.
I investigated the option of fitting such a product to my car years back but the roof swages make it very difficult indeed. Had Audi opted to depress the swages instead of them being proud, many more options for sunroof installations would have been possible.

Sunroofs - not so easy!
