1.6FSI Start-up rattle, odd surge at 2800rpm

Just picked up another A2 with 85000 miles and good service, but there is a top end rattle at start up (noticed this on other VAG 1.6), goes as soon as the oil moves around. Issue or not? Also car goes OK but a bit sluggish maybe, then at around 2800-2900rpm there is a real surge in power, Does this engine have VVT? what else.

Hi the noise is normal-my one has done it since i got it at 20k it now has 130k the surge is the transition from stratified injection to conventional. It can be lessened by using high octane fuel as recommended by audi for better performance and increased mpg. cheers mike
