EBC, ATE or BREMBO? - Your Opinions?

Hi Guys,

I know I need to change my discs and drums soon.

I've always used Pagid for discs and pads, brilliant no problems on any of my cars BUT I can't stand that squealing noise when you hit the brakes!

Now, are there any brake pads / discs out there that do not make the brake squeal sound?

Can anybody recommend good discs and pads?

What do you guys use?

After extensive research I'm very interested in these 3 brands EBC, ATE and BREMBO.

Are they any good?

Thanks,

Kish.

Squealing disc brakes are normally caused by the pad vibrating in its mounting.

A small amount of copper grease applied to the back and sides of the metal part of the pad usually stops the squealing.

It is not a common problem on the A2 any more than on any other car, so it is unlikely to be due to the make of the pads etc.

I have never had a brake squeal on an A2 ever, so it sounds like you were unlucky, or that the pads were not quite fitted correctly.

For pads I always buy ATE if available. They are slightly softer than Pagid and so bite better (especially important on rear discs). I have them fitted with no squeel.
EBC and Brembo are also good brands, but I have not tried them.
Mintex is the only brand I don't use for brakes now after two sets I had wore very unevenly and had high spots on the disc (could have been luck of the draw, as I am sure all manufacturers have bad batches).

How about Ferodo? When I drove the scrap car race, we had good quality Ferodo consumer pads. Didn't need to change them even once during 24h of race track.

I would go for ATE as had ATE pad and Miele discs on my previous A2 and they were a great combination. I loved the fact that any sudden breaking was really effective and sharp. hopefully, will do the same set up with my current A2 as don't feel the same (miss it) also I think is it Jeff's or Spike's set up is quite good too, ATE Pads & discs (can't remember the type but sounded good).

either way you got a good selection.

(Spike thanks for the link.) :)

Brembo discs n Pads mine are in 5th year now
Its not the miles I do more the kind of miles with salt on the road, ice etc

Powerdiscs with ceramic pads for me as well
Really good all round brakes
No ugly rusty rotors
No brake dust
No squealing
No uneven braking
Long lasting
But they are a bit more expensive

ATE Fitted to mine recently, A2 CARS supply and fit.

Give Tony a call Murdo, he offered delivery of dogbone mount recently so no doubt the parts you require could soon be in the post.;)

Any recommendations for where to buy the ATE discs and pads?

Hi Murdo

Check the link in post 4. It directs you straight to the 'Power Disc' section but they also sell the full range of ATE discs and pads

Cheers Spike

thanks spike. Sorry I missed that one . In fact I'm sure you've directed me on this before but I wasn't ready to change. The mintex stuff on the car is functioning fine but starting to show signs of corrosion.

I would only recommend STOPTECH for pads!!

no complaints here and there reasonably cheap when bought as a kit!
