Could an A2 1.2 3L beat this new mpg record?

BBC News item today about Honda Civic Tourer 1.6i achieving 100.31 mpg over 8,387 miles through 24 EU countries in 25 days.

According to the A2 Wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A2#1.2_TDI_.223L.22 the A3 1.2 3L can achieve 2.88 l/100 km which I make 98.74 mpg, so just a whisker off the 100.31 of the Honda. Just needs gentle driving, good weather conditions, flat terrain, good planning (e.g. avoid big towns, avoid countries with a need for headlights) etc.

Any A2 1.2L owners up to the challenge? Would be great PR for our cars. We could collectively fund the fuel cost.

The first year Andre attended AITP show he drove his remapped 1.2tdi from Germany and he averaged 113.5 mpg if my memory serves me correctly. Impressive indeed for a car with climate and also luggage. Let alone over 100k miles under its belt. Mike

It's alter ego, the Lupo 3L already has. From Wikipedia: 'In 2001, a Japanese economy driver, Dr Miyano, used it to set a new world record for the most frugal circumnavigation of Britain in a standard diesel production car, with an average fuel economy figure of 119.48 mpg. In November 2003, Gerhard Plattner covered a distance of 2,910 miles through 20 European countries in a standard Lupo 3L TDI. He achieved his aim of completing this journey - which started in Oslo, Norway and finished in The Hague in The Netherlands - with just 100 euros worth of fuel. In fact, all he required was 90.94 euros, which corresponds to an average consumption of 2.78 litres per 100 km (101.6 mpg).'

The A2 1.2tdi is more aerodynamic than the Lupo 3L and is effectively more highly geared due the larger circumference tyres.

Not using the AC, taking the time to avoid biger roads and driving a bit slower then usual I can average about 2,7L /100km.
So, not a problem.

My current overal mpg is ~80 but that's driving on RME (5%higher fuel consumption), a tad over the speed limit, a lot of cold starts (live in Sweden), winter tires and using the extra horsepower from my remap.

Its been done!

Amateur eco driver Frank Jendrek managed 2.4 l/100km and expert eco driver Gerhard Plattner managed just 3.29l/100km in a standard 1.4 TDI!

95 to 100 imp mpg should be possible in real world driving. Mine just did over 110mpg average on DIS from Sleaford to central Newark yesterday in rush hour on A17 and stop start driving. Earlier this week got a thumbs up on Twitter from Red Dwarf star Robert Llewellyn (EVangelist an Tesla driver) for managing over 96 mpg over 50 mile commute at near national speed limits.
