New owner/member

Hi all,
have just bought a lovely red 2004 1.6 FSi.
Been hankering after an A2 for years and the old (P reg) honda civic has just died, so perfect excuse.
A2 is low mileage (66k) and the body is pretty immaculate but i think it hasn't been particularly well maintained - the inlet manifold (with the throttle flaps) got replaced and it's all rather coked up & I think they fitted new coil packs/plugs before i was happy with it.
Slightly lumpy idle, but it goes like stink once the revs are up. Have put a tank of 98 RON and some Wynn's injector cleaner in the tank to see if that helps before I go down any more serious routes.
Once I've got a manual (erwin/elsa?) and a VAG-COM tool, I'll be able to give it a proper service and change the cam belt, just to be on the safe side.

Also need a new parcel shelf, engine cover (the one which hides the coil packs), under engine tray (if it makes any difference) and a spare key. The ABS light came on a couple of times yesterday, but seems to have stopped, so maybe there's a dodgy wire somewhere.

Hi Andy,

Welcome to a great club and a great car.

There is plenty of help, information and advice on here so please enjoy the experience.

There is a "how to" index too with lots of helpful hints and tips.

You would be most welcome at our socials (Audi Driver's International is coming up at the beginning of October (check out the events section for more details).

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your A2 on the "members cars" section soon?

Cheers
Steve B

Welcome. Keep an eye out for the ABS light, might need a new wiring loom. Would like to see some pics of your A2.

Hi and welcome to a great friendly club, plenty of people to help if you need or just join in the banter!
As Steve said it'd be great to see you at ADI, no matter how your car looks, everyone's made welcome, and your car sounds great by the way,
Cheers Jeff

Hi andy welcome to A2oc the FSI is sweet when running nice and loves high octane fuel(i use momentum from tesco). Just for your info there isn't an engine cover on the fsi. The under tray is really needed as it holds the inner wings in place along with the front bumper and wings. It also adds aerodynamic help for economy. There are not expensive even new from audi.
Plenty of help and info on here so sit back and enjoy. mike

Thanks gents!
She's now booked in with Chris Umpleby for a good going over next week, undertray (8Z0 825 235 E)/; is ordered from Bradford Audi at £94.90. Apparently it comes with the fixings...
The ABS light seems to come on most readily on hard right-handers (the cornering reminds me of the 1275 GT I had may years ago - hopefully I will calm down soon), so hopefully its something simple. Yes I have topped-up the fluid level ;-) "New wiring loom" sounds a bit ominous, hopefully you don't mean the whole thing!

Your Abs might be ok, mine was on permanently and I needed the whole loom replacing.

Hi Andy you have a "red colour storm edition" A2. Audi produced these specials to appeal to the "youth sector". The line up offered yellow red and blue originally but there are orange- silver- white. But super rare. Be really great to see you and your storm at a social. cheers mike

Hi Andy
Welcome from another West Yorkshire member
Next year we're hoping to organise a Social possibly at Saltaire so you may be one of the nearest?

Hilary

And another Yorkshire welcome! I used to live just over the hill in Otley and often visit Saltaire in my red A2, too... Looking forward to the proposed social there. (Has a date been set yet?)

Oh dear!
the Audi specialist has contacted me to say that there is a misfire on cylinder 1, probably due to burnt out exhaust and far more ominous, the Check engine light has been removed. He doesn't know how engine passed emissions test 200 miles ago. This all sounds very expensive and worrying. Only consolation is that I'm still under engine/gearbox warranty from the dealer, though I can't see getting a refund being an easy/pleasant option. Such a lovely car which does actually run quite well, though fuel consumption does now seem a bit high (nearly at halfway mark after only 130 miles).

Damn! It seems i have been sold a dud and am now stuck between a dealer and an Audi specialist...

Hi
you have a very strong case for a refund.
If the engine has a problem and the warning light has been disabled then even if the dealer didn't disable it he is redponsible for this.

You our are entitled fir the car to be usable and with a problem that would cause an MOT failure then the car is not usable. The disabling of the warning light shows that this was a known problem by him or a previous owner.

So do I would see what the dealer is prepared to offer you as a solution and if he is not going to deal with this fairly you will need to threaten (and go ahead with) legal action.
Hopefully he will play fair.

But ut you do have a strong case.

Steve B

Thanks Steve,
Yes, i do hope that this doesn't turn into a fight though, I've got better things to do with my life. now waiting for dealer to get back to me after he's chatted to Audi guy. part of me wonders whether i can get a hefty refund and then get the car sorted, but the risk is that i end up spending more than i paid for the car.

anyone got a DECENT FSi they want rid of?

Andy

I'm assuming a faulty coil pack has been discounted as the cause of the misfire so the next step would be a compression test which is quick and easy to do and would show up a burnt valve.
If the engine does have internal problems I'd be very tempted to reject it but if it's a case of just replacing parts then it would be fair to allow the garage a chance to fix it.

Cheers Spike

I believe dealer replaced at least one coil and the plugs, which both helped but yes, apparently there is low compression on cylinder 1. Dealer seems very reasonable and has already offered a full refund if he can't get a decent repair price, just a waiting game at the moment.
