I had a look on the forums for photos of this but couldn't see any. I'm sure this is basic stuff for the pros, but being the first time I took the door panel off, I thought I'd help others save some time.
I read Sarge's How-to general servicing thread (post 13), that demonstrated how to remove the panel. Since I needed to replace the buttons, I realised I needed to release the old ones from the external surface of the door card to be able to replace the whole module.
Since I didn't need to replace the entire module though, I realised I could have done all this without taking off the door card at all. Using a slim flat implement similar to those used to release ipod cases, I slipped it down the side of the buttons aiming to gently release the small projecting plastic knob. Once it had popped out, the other side released fairly easily. Grab replacement buttons, click into place, job done.
