New A2 owner!

Hallo everyone
I have recently purchased an A2 1.4 tdi se and it really puts a smile on my face when I drive. Unfortunately, there is one major issue that when I have driven on the motorway the engine has a loss of power, almost as if the turbo isn't working. When I turn off the engine and then restart the car runs normally. Anybody had similar experience? I live in West Midlands is there any trusted source that members know/use that can diagnose/repair my car accurately. Thanks, look forward to your replies!

Welcome to A2OC.
This could be intercooler leak search on this in google to find info in A2OC for information, had this happen to me also on motorway and it was the intercooler leaking.
Great advice from murdo, Stealth Racing who have a reputation with A2,s and Milton Keynes there is A2 Cars specialising in A2 cars.

Welcome to the forum. Your car is going into 'limp mode'. It'll need a diagnostic scan as there can be a few reasons for that. Some of the more technically competent members maybe able to suggest probable causes for you. The TDI is pretty reliable so hopefully it won't be a big problem.

Nearby in Southam you have Stealth Racing who have a sound reputation with A2 and have the car themselves. A little further afield in Milton Keynes there is A2 Cars specialising in the wee beastie.

There's a recently joined member stating they are a VAG master tech and very close to you but no yardstick to be able to recommend them. You'd best make local enquiries. They're called 'Autopedia'

You'll be in safe hands with either of the first 2 if you're prepared to travel a wee bit.

Hello and welcome to the club.

Your car is going into what's known as 'limp mode'. This can be caused by a variety of faults, though the most common cause is the pressurised air from the turbo escaping somewhere.
As has been suggested, it could be the intercooler, which is known to have dodgy seals between the core and end tanks. The intercooler is mounted at the front of the car, to the right of the radiator as seen from the driver's seat. The area around the point of failure can often be spotted by an oily residue. There are also four rubber pipes that guide the pressurised air; two prior to the intercooler and two after. It's worth checking that these are properly attached and without punctures.

See what you can find. We're here to help.

Cheers,

Tom

I've had the limp mode twice. Once, no codes, off and on fixed it, the other, an overboost code, which needed clearing. I have found no leaks in the system, but dd run some turbo cleaner through the system.

If it happens on a regular basis, then the guys above are the experts.

Welcome to the club.

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated! It seems that this issue is intermittent as I have just been on the M5 for 50 miles and no problems. I will keep an eye on it and if it occurs again I will consult Stealth Racing. I will, of course, let you all know how this pans out. I am off to Devon today (from Gloucester), so fingers crossed!

A2 power loss fixed.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post about the power loss. I visited Stealth Racing today and they diagnosed the problem and fixed it on the spot for £33. The power loss was caused by the vacuum pipe from the turbo been disconnected. Afterwards, I drove on the motorway and the difference in power was immense and really put a smile on my face, love this car! Thanks for all your help and a big thank you for Stealth, very professional and good value!
