Is it possible to test the webasto heater while on the car and it not being cold enough for it to cut in ?

Does a replacement unit need coding ?

Finally, does anyone have a wiring diagram for it ? ie what the 3 wires in the connector next to the power in and earth connector do ?

There are some threads on here about that. If you use a cooling spray (as used by oplumbers to freeze pipes) and spray that on the outside temperature sender you can trick the system.

But have a browse using the word Webasto in the search.

yep stick an ice pole on the outside temp sensor, located through the front bumper slatted grill, passenger side , push ice pop on end for 10 secs , jump in the car it will display minus something and webasto will fire up when u start the engine if its working
