Belatedly with apologies for having a memory like a sieve may I wish Spike a very happy birthday for yesterday 3rd May when he celebrated a 'milestone'. I'll not say which milestone he's a private man that's up to him if he wants to share!

Contrary to some pop legend on A2OC I can confirm that Spike is a living breathing gentleman happily enjoying his retirement in the Yorkshire countryside. I've heard rumour that he's been reputed as an automated and highly efficient search engine for A2OC - totally untrue - he's simply got an encyclopaedic knowledge of our beloved car and the A2OC forum and we have all benefited from this from time to time as visitors ( or inhabitants ) of these pages.

So many happy returns to one of our stalwart club members, without whom the A2OC wouldn't be the friendly inclusive and knowledge sharing forum that sets us apart from many an online car club.

Don't expect to meet and shake his hand at a social though - when working for a large diesel engine manufacturer developing and producing power plants for trucks and buses he was known as 'the Olympic flame' as he never went out.!!

I hope Mrs Spike did manage to coax him out for his big day and I'll finish as I started wishing Spike all the best and express sincere gratitude for everything you have quietly done for A2OC over the years.

if ever you were to enter Mastermind, I think we know what your specialist subject would be. An opportune moment to say thank you for your years of service to the community, helping countless with your advice and signposts to threads and links. Cheers mate.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. In addition to my 'big day' (3 score years and 10), the A2, which I bought new, will be 15 years old on May 18th. Some day I'll write up my A2 diary

Although I'd hinted to Murdo that my 'perfect day' would be to potter in the garage and finish off with a steak dinner and bottle of Prosecco, the better half did persuade me to have a ride out.
We went to my favourite tea room at Newbiggin on Lune then had a leisurely ride over the moors to Keld, stopped in Reeth for another cuppa and cake at Overton House then back home..... and yes, I did finish off with the desired dinner.
