17" 7J wheel offsets

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what offsets for 17" wheels will fit the A2.

7J wide.

Am I right in thinking the RS4 alloys are 7J ET38. Would ET42 fit, or would I need 5mm spacers?

Thanks,

Stuart.

it will fit , but you'll need spacers to get the same distance of the hub

If you are sticking to 7J width hen ET42 may well fit without problems 4mm is a tiny amount and the clearance is more than that.

I have fitted wider than 8J wheels without rubbing and so that equates to an additional 0.5 inches closer to the wheel tub than standard (i.e. 12,7 MM, so 4mm is a third of that.

I am assuming that you will opt for something like 205 40 17 tyres?

Yeah the same size that the Sport 17" RS4s run was my thoughts. I was just a little concerned about internal clearance with the abs cables.

RS4s would be my preference as they are OEM for the A2, but I'd be concerned about buying buckled ones. I have a few different sets in mind though :)

Hi,

It does happen, but it is rare that the ABS cables rub, especially if they are fitted correctly.

My 18" X 8J wheels with 215 width tyres have caused no problems, so you should be fine.

The RS4 wheels are very soft, especially on the inner rim and so there is a real chance of buckling, but they look amazing.

I never like stating something relating to tyres and wheels as fact.

All I can say is that I believe it should be ok.

Remember that tyre size plays a huge part and even some tyres of the same size have thicker sidewalls than others or even a more rounded sidewall.

So the best I can say is that you should be ok. 205 40 17s are a tiny bit stretched on a 7.5J wheel but give the maximum clearance ( I have that exact set up on my wife's A2 so I obviously feel it is a safe combination (7.5J on a 205 40 17)

I really like those TT wheels, but they don't come up for sale very often.

I have a set of FOUR 16-inch x 7J Audi TT wheels with Vredestein Wintrac Xtream 205/50 tyres fitted all less that 1000-miles; Suzy was sold earlier this week with 16-inch x 7J Audi TT wheels and summer tyres

The wheels I have that I will eventually advertise come the winter months cost me £770 for all FOUR wheels and tyres

As said before, in my own view the 16-inch x 7J Audi TT wheels with 205/60 tyres transform the car in both ride and handling and I think visually they're pretty neat, too - and the Vredesteins can be used all year round

PM me if they are of interest to you...

By the way, I have recently become a huge fan of Vredestein tyres. I replaced my cheap 215 35 18s with Vredesteins and the difference was HUGE. MUCH quieter, improved grip and more compliant tyre walls improving comfort slightly.

The best tyres I have ever fitted to an A2 (In my opinion).
