Lower wishbones needed

Had the car up on the ramps today looking at the suspension and noticed one of the wishbones had some small rust holes ? Mot due at the end of the month so want to get it sorted soon.
What I'm asking is for any info on where to buy etc ?
The car is 1.4 petrol 2005 so has the pressed type.
I've had some expensive bills on this car recently and can't afford genuine Audi parts so any other options would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
David

Hi Dave this was recently discussed by i believe Brett and he was saying to stay clear of the meyle ones as the german forum guys had found them to be of poor geometry. Looking on the e.bay there are lots of the cast ones from about £55 The cast ones are the same geometry. Or see if a2steve has some good second hand ones?
Hope your well and be great to see you at a social again--cheers mike

Id go for the cast ones second hand if you cant find new and fit new bushes that's what iim doing on my mk4 golf as well

Can I put cast ones on as thought they where only able to put on pre 2003 cars ?

Just to confirm A2Sumo's comments, Audi don't list them as being interchangeable but Bret recently confirmed they were following evaluation by guys on the German Forum.
As the ball joints are not replaceable, check them for play and replace the rubber boots if split or perished (there are lots on ebay)

I have lost count of the times I have said to people, the A2 is all aluminium and so will never rust, but as we all know and have seen on here there are some steel components that must be checked regularly.

The idea is that the ball joint should probably wear out before the rust becomes a serious issue, but if you live near the sea or park on grass etc. the rust can be a serious problem well before the ball joint wears out.

So please do check these regularly, the MOT test should warn you of any serious corrosion (although as we have seen they sometimes miss it too) but it doesn't take long to visually inspect these.

This is now a couple of these rusting through.

Can I suggest that all owners check there wishbones, especially if they know that they don't have the cast ones.

If this part fails you will lose control of the car.

If you can't check them please take them to your local garage (they don't have to be A2 specialists) and have them checked properly.

Yes these cars are mostly aluminium but that does not include these assemblies.

Can anyone recommend where to buy some wishbones from ? And the rubbers also ?
And any makes to go for ?

Cheers

Word from the German Forum (via Bret) recommends TRW wishbones. I found the cast wishbones available from Mr Auto - http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/sus...rol-arm/audi-a2-8z0-1-4-75hp_v13360_g273.html but it's worth doing a search to see if there are better deals around

I also looked on the TRW web site to see what's available and could only find the cast ones with no fabricated versions listed

Good morning
So can I just confirm that I CAN fit the cast ones to my 2005 A2 which has pressed wishbones fitted at the moment ? and if so what other parts are needed to be purchased?
Many thanks in advance

I can't answer whether the cast can be interchanged with pressed steel versions, sorry. :(

I did the same job on a 2003 A2. I used Meyle cast joints and had absolutely no issues, however there are differing opinions about them.

Give yourself 2-3 days to do this job if you're working on the driveway. Nothing comes off the way it's supposed to, and also mark the subframe console with a permanent marker so bolts line up on refitting.

Considering you're going to the bother of changing them, then it would be wise to replace the ARB rubber bushes, and the drop links too.

Finally, I used a local garage to press the old wishbones out and press the new ones into the console. Forget pullers on EBay, unless they're the real deal from Draper is Laser. Need to have an opening of 150mm from memory.

After everything is swapped over, then get the tracking alignment done.

Good luck. :)
