Front cup holders

I have 3 sets of cup holders in 3 different cars all 2000/1 model year.
The question is they all feel like soft touch or sticky.
In reality they should be hard touch.
As of yet I have not tried to clean them in case i do more harm than good.
Advice would be appreciated, many thanks in advance.

worst case would be you clean all the soft touch off and remove the little symbol showing a cup, youd end up with just the black plastic, ive done this on my window switches as they were looking awefull where half the soft touch had worn away and looks so much better now
