Waterlogged boot

Hi, I am new to the forum and need some help. I have recently purchases a 2005 1.4TDI and the boot is full of water, kinda like condensation on steroids. The false boot cover on the underside is damp, the battery is damp, everything else has a good bit of water on it. The small compartment to the right of the battery has had about 2cm of water after being dried out with a sponge. Could this be condensation, because the heater seems to work when it feels like it, which is not
Can anyone suggest what is wrong and a fix for this.

This issue is most likely the vents behind the rear bumper.

it is worth buying new vents (I bought mine from CreweAudi on here)
it is a job that you only want to do once if you can help it.
