that they will be a modification so far as insurance is concerned; nice and wallowy over the speed bumps I expect

No not standard fit on a 1.4/1.6 anything.
However the 1.2 TDI has 14" wheels albeit very special ones.

Well took the old girl to work and there is no Rubbing lock to lock and its quite Comfortable.

Which tyres have you opted for, did you match the 3L's size? I'm about to take my 16s off and put new 205/45 R17s on (winter/summer) and I'm looking forward to it... honestly .
Best setup that I've sampled thus far is sport suspension and 15" wheels. With Konis and 14s, you're redefining A2 comfort!
P.S, an A2 lives opposite as well?

Yep,its a special ed Petrol with pretty low miles,I think 50-60k now.
you just have to make sure whatever 14" wheel you choose it clears the caliper.
