Thread: Grill / Grille

  1. Grill / Grille

    Evening everyone,

I have been looking a while for a grill / grille like this (pictured) but as I'm relatively new to the A2 scene I didn't know of these were a custom job or not.. anyway I've found out it's not and these are fitted to the 'newer' A2's I would be looking to get my hands on one of these if anyone has one or knows where I can get one.. thanks in advance. Luke

there is a smooth or a ribboned grill, on the picture both are ribboned, one has made the rings black.

Yeah it's a ribboned grill I am looking for I've just noticed the picture isn't very clear for some reason I have a smooth grill fitted currently.

You can buy the later style ribbed grille from breakers, think they are on around 2004 cars onwards. If you get them complete with the chrome surround, they just bolt in place, only took me a few minutes with mine. I have a problem in that the release cable doesn't pop the grille open now with out me persuading it bu pulling on the grille, but I think that could be due to a little damage on the inside of the grille I bought - it was slightly twisted.

They do look much better in my opinion.

Interesting views on the two grille types. Personally I like both. I actually went the opposite way on my original TDI and purchased a new smooth type to replace the stock slatted grille. The reason: I wanted my car to be truer to the original design and embrace the service flap concept. This time, despite having a smooth grille as a spare, I have left the slatted grille in place, as I do like the look. Choices, choices and the beauty about the uniqueness of these great little motors.

Its slightly odd that Audi saw fit to continue with the smooth grill after 2004 but only on some of the colour storm models. Perhaps they just had excess stock and needed to use them up.
