Much improved gear change

Hi all,

Having replaced my selector tower bearing shortly after buying my A2 a month ago I was still finding the gear change frustrating. I also drained and refilled the box with G060726A2 VAG oil.

I did many adjustments to the linkage and replaced the clutch, but still had problems engaging third and fourth, making the car hard work to drive.

This week I started thinking in terms of a second hand gearbox, but thought I would try another gear oil change first.

The major dilemma had been whether to buy more genuine oil or try and alternative. After much deliberating I bought three bottles of Redline MT-90 at the painful sum of £55 delivered.

This morning I drained the box again. The oil looked horrible, even after a month, and a delightful rust colour.

Having put in the Redline and reset the linkage all I can say is WOW!

It is a different car to drive. Not once have I had to attempt to get third or fourth in more then once. The gear change is so much lighter. I hoped the Redline would help, I am not disappointed.

Hopefully my box will last a bit longer now.
