accessing front number plate

Someone left there hand brake off when parked up and their car has just rolled back gently into my front number plate cracking it.
How do I get the trim off from around the number plate to enable taking the plate out and replacing it with a new one?

Most types I've used use the euroclip patent, pushing the tabs upwards should release it.
They do become brittle overtime like most things so be aware they might snap.

I found that mine is hinged top and bottom with clips at each side in the middle.
There are two very small slots by the centre line which look like they need a special tool to insert and depress the catches.
I have managed to part them successfully by gently prying with a flat blade.
