Alternator!

It could possibly work out cheaper having it reconditioned or exchanging yours for a reconditioned one. There is a place local to me which provides this service. Try googling "Alternator reconditioning services" in the Taunton area and it may bring one up local to you. :)

There are a few youtube clips on bearing replacement. It's not too difficult or expensive to do and the removed bearings will have a stamped reference number on the rim if you are unsure of the type and size

Cheers Spike

PS. If it has the freewheeling pulley first check it's not that which is making the noise

Cheers Spike, think it might have been the clutch pulley as it's just sheared off on the missus!!!

OOOPS also look at getting the idler (big sprung unit) as they can lead to a failed pulley and vice a versa cheers mike
