Curly light flashing when driving

The light that comes on that looks like a spring when you turn on the ignition has suddenly started flashing when I'm driving! I have a y reg 14 TDI. Any ideas what it means?

No, early A2's did not have an engine management light so the glowplug light flashes instead. It would be best to have your codes read with a diagnostic scan before doing anything else.

Just a quick thought, are your break lights working? I had this problem when my brake light switch had gone, I believe it's a fairly common problem.
 
Yes, there's a good chance the brake light switch is faulty, but scan it to see what it says.
