1.2tdi 3L cruise control help please

Hi There,
I'm looking to get an o.e. type cruise control set up to my imported 1.2tdi A2 . I have done a couple of long motorway drives recently and think it's a good idea.I have been looking on a couple of german sites and it seems like some of them offer a modification service on the ecu (thats if I can get mine off somehow!). Then I need the stalk fitting and anything else?.Can anyone advise on a specialist or someone who can fit it for me?. I'm super grateful for any advice. Thanks.

I've just had cruise control installed on my 1.2 tdi and its reasonably straight forward, but as with all A2's the ECU needs coding with VCDS to activate it. You will need a new wiper arm with the correct wire harness which you can find on Ebay. Then its a matter of following the instructions and code the ECU at the end. Takes about an hour if you are taking your time and it does involve a bit of soldering too. Be aware there are two styles of wiper arms, old and new style. Both works fine but I definitely prefer the new style. I really enjoy having the cruise and wouldn't want my A2 without it..

Unfortunately I am located in Denmark and unable to assist, but I am sure there are several competent members here who can help with installation and coding if you don't feel like doing it yourself.

Best regards - Alex.

Hi Alex

Do you not have a 1.4 tdi as the procedure for the 1.2 tdi is significantly more complicated than your description - and needs internal mods to the ECU etc.
There is more info in this thread - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthrea...-for-1-2-TDI!&highlight=cruise+control+german

I think David has read this but installation is rather daunting for all but the most experienced owners so he needs help with fitting.

David, it may help if you tell us your approx location. Timmus for example often travels round the country for his retrofit service and could undoubtedly do the job if you so wish.

Cheers Spike

Hi David,

Fitting cruise control to a 1.2TDI is a more involved job than it is on all other variants of the A2, but I can definitely be of assistance. As Spike says, it'd be handy to know where you are in the UK.

Cheers,

Tom (Timmus)

PS: Many thanks for the recommendation, chaps. :)

Hi, thanks so much for all your help. I'm in the north west so will get in touch with Timmus direct. Much appreciated with the posts on this.

Yes, I do have a 1.4 TDI which also has cruise, but I have recently imported a 1.2 TDI from Germany which is in the process of receiving som upgrading and so far had a remap done along with cruise control. And there is no need for internal mods on the ECU, just coding which took less than 5 min. Installing the cable loom and soldering 4 wires onto the main ECU plug is what took the majority of time. So maybe a bit more work on a 1.2 then a 1.4, but hardly complicated..

And for Timmus I'm sure its easy peasy. :)

Old posts from the German Forum indicate a software mod for the ECU is needed before cruise control can be activated with VCDS.

Any chance your engine remap would have also included the cruise mod

Cheers Spike

CC was never an option fot the 1.2Tdi. The ECU firmware requires modification.

The complexity of cruise on the 1.2 is because the semi-auto gearbox uses the normal cruise control channels which are spare on all manual A2's.
