Hi all,

I just bought a 2001 Audi A2, and I’m looking for a little help. It’s got the Chorus 1 head unit, and I wanted to add Bluetooth, so bought this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Bluet...pter-AUDI-A2-A3-A4-S4-TT-1998-06/222338177932

The ad states that it is compatible with A2’s 1999 – 2005, and specifically shows the Chorus 1 in the ad. I have hooked it all up, but can’t figure out how to get it working (or if the ad is wrong, and it is not compatible).

There is a socket for the blue plug, but on the top of the headunit the pin diagram shows that this socket is blank. This leads me to think that external CD players (or adapters like the Bluetooth unit) may not be supported.

The documentation says to turn the head unit to “CD” to access the Bluetooth, but there is no CD button on the Chorus 1.

  • If it is compatible, how to I switch the source to Bluetooth?
  • If it is not compatible, what would you suggest to get the Bluetooth working? Buy Chorus 2 / Concert 1 / Concert 2?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
ps. It was registered in Ireland first in March 2001.

All chorus/concert/symphony radios support an external CD changer. Usually it a missing ground wire that is the problem with CD changer adaptor modules

The blue connector does not have a ground connection in it. Usually there is a separate lead to ground.

Hi,

I thought the Chorus 1 didn't support the CD changer.

The Youtube video Steve linked is interesting, although the person who posted the video didn't show how they did it.

I suspect that this person has modified the electronics inside to connect up the bluetooth interface as the CD changer input on these headunits doesn't have the ability to supply text prompts, track details etc and the video shows menu text on the LED display. The text that goes with the video sounds like the author is advertising the modification.

I found this which seems to indicate that you can add the CD input to a Chorus 1 if you add additional components.

You need to add the additional components that connect up to the external socket and also something to be a "mode" button to select the CD mode.

regards

Andrew

I have the adaptor grounded to the back of the head unit (you can actually see it in the photo above).
If the Chorus 1 supports an external CD changer, how would you switch between the radio and CD? There is no CD or source button

Thanks for posting. Gave that a try. Didn't work, but I'm guessing each adaptor has it's own way of selecting the adaptor.

Soldering PCBs is waaaaay beyond my skills, so if the Chorus 1 doesn't support a CD changer, perhaps I should just pick up a Chorus 2 or Concert 1/2?
Something like this one - http://www.adverts.ie/audio/audi-concert-radio/12786811

How easy was it to remove the head unit? Was there enough cable to easily pull head unit out and access rear of it?

I have a double din Audi stereo which I'd like to either add Bluetooth to or replace with apple car play box...

It's very very easy to remove once you have the removal keys (buy them on ebay for about £1). Cable is long enough to get access to the back without unplugging it (which is a good job, as I don't have the security code :))
