ABS fault

I have the Red ! and ABS traction control lights coming on intermittently on managements A2, following fault code

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 8Z0-907-379-MK60.lbl
Part No: 8Z0 907 379 C
Component: ESP FRONT MK60 0101
Coding: 0019591
Shop #: WSC 00000 785 00200
VCID: 4895B07138023A0602-513C

1 Fault Found:
01314 - Engine Control Module
013 - Check DTC Memory - Intermittent

I have cleaned the earth next to the controller and checked it's connection, cleared the codes but the lights come back on again, go out after a restart, till the next time ... any ideas on what else to check ?

Thanks

Steve

I did a search on the fault code 01314 and it came up with several variations of the same problem.
It seems that any ABS related sensor etc which does not supply the expected signal results in that fault code.

Normally the scan would also pinpoint the specific sensor, normally one of the 4 wheel speed sensors so I wonder if you using one of the more basic diagnostic tools rather than VCDS

Here's one example - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthrea...ing-on-dash-amp-loud-beep&p=278197#post278197

I'm using VCDS from ross tech

This is from Ross tech, it's saying Engine control module is that still the ABS unit ?

01314 - Engine Control Module

01314 - Engine Control Module: No Communications

Possible Causes
## CAN-Databus Wiring/Connectors from/to Engine Control Module faulty
## Fault(s) stored in Engine Control Module
## Engine Control Module recently flashed or re-mapped

Possible Solutions
## Check CAN-Databus Wiring/Connectors from/to Engine Control Module
## Check Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) ## Usually Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) 125+ show the current Communication Status

Special Notes
## When found in a 2005 through 2007 2.5L NAR (North American Region) (1K) Jetta check the T121/62 (Red/Black) traced power wire to the ECM. If power is missing or a voltage drop is present that wire may be damaged anywhere between 6" and 18" from the connector itself. This will result in no communication in addition to a no-start. ## Based on 2.5L Jetta feedback over the years a majority look like this example however some are damaged further away per this example: with the close-up and distant views.

01314 - Engine Control Module: Check DTC Memory

Possible Causes
## Fault(s) stored in Engine Control Module

Possible Solutions
## Check Engine Control Module for Fault Codes

Special Notes
## Engine Control Module stored a Code which influences other Control Modules Functionality.
## To clear this Fault Code you will need to correct the Problem in the Engine Control Module first.

Not necessarily brake or ABS related - think it's a result of the ABS controller flagging an ECM fault.

I think that these errors are a "red herring" if that was the actual error your car wouldn't start.

The only time I have seen errors like this is from "non-Genuine" full VCDS cables / software. But you have said that yours is a genuine one.

I would imagine that if you try to read the engine controller via VCDS it should work and it may be just a "blip".

Your issues are brake related and although this can sometimes be linked to something else going wrong I would focus on the brake system.

I would check the contacts of the main electrical connectors to the ECU and ABS units, remove each and check for moisture etc.

As above, it’s not necessarily brake-related. From what I can ascertain, I experienced the same symptoms and code from a tired in-tank fuel pump.

If you scan for codes on the engine, are you getting any results? I had traction ABS and explanation mark on the dash, mine was a fault with the EPC (on an FSI) but deffo not always an ABS fault.

The only real way to determine faults is to note them, or better still save the log file.
Then Clear all codes, run the car for a short trip, then rescan.

Codes flagged as intermittent could have happened ages ago and could even have been caused by a disconnected or flat battery.

By clearing them all and rescanning you should be left with the current ones only.

Nothing there that will cause an ABS or ESP light on the dash... The plot thickens!
