1.4tdi rattle

Hi what type of TDI is it? 75 or 90?

It is 75, 2003

I had a really annoying rattle from the front in the same area as yours is coming from, it turned out to be a loose bonnet receiver. Try pressing down in the top corner of the bonnet, if the rattle stops all I did was put two or three layers of insulation tape on the plastic receiver anto take up the slack and it stopped it perfectly....if it isn't that then sorry I've no idea!! worth a look at the silly ones first though I suppose?

Yup sounds like its more of a rattle than a shake indicating something is merely loose somewhere. Not having the benefit of being there it would be difficult to try and pinpoint exactly where the rattle is coming from - i suspect you'll need to keep the car on tick over and try and isolate where the noise is coming from and take it from there.
