Brake pedal to floor.......

As title, hoping for some help here...out of the blue when applying brake, pedal travelled virtually to floor with the final 10% resulting in retardation.

Upon investigation the rear brakes have zero response to pedal with the front brakes responding to last 2' inches of pedal.

Have checked fluid level - normal.

No leaks.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

With something like brakes you are far better getting them checked out by a qualified mechanic, you need to stay safe.

But if there are genuinely no leaks and the brake fluid level is correct then the prime candidate would be the master cylinder.
But if the brakes are not improving and if you can pump the pedal with the engine running and the pedal firms up, it is far more likely to be air in the system (even though there is no visible links.

If it suddenly comes back firm without pumping then I would suspect the master cylinder.

if your rear slave cylinder have started weaping , which is a common fault with age you may not get fluid leaking out as such as fills the dust seals first but could also be being kept and sprayed around inside the rear brake drum as id does not take much fluid loss to lose pedal , the only other thing that comes to mind is the abs unit as this holds brake fluid pressure in order for the abs and tracktion control to work correctly

For future reference could find no obvious faults (had replaced f/r discs/linings/cylinders within the last 12months) so decided to bleed the complete system which brought it back to life.

Thanks for help.
