1.6 fsi engine part loose? What is it? Fuel consumption high! photos attached

Hi Everyone, I have an A2 1.6 FSI, and removed bonnet today and found this part below loose, what is it? where should it be?
Also I seem to having high fuel consumption , or poor mpg, I know I have always had diesels in the past and the tank is small however is 110 miles for a half tank normal? Car runs fine and is perfect otherwise, although a little bit slow, until higher in the rev range. Thanks for any advice, Andrewhttp://

Which bit are you referring to? The middle of the pic looks like the rain water catching cup - is the loose bit above, below, left or right?

All those pipes! It’s like rubbish Where’s Wally?

Which fuel are you using? FSI (occasionally) happy only on super unleaded. I can take a picture of the water cup in the morning should you need it as our FSI isn't happy travelling at the moment.

Hi Andrew,

I agree, and the sides of the draining cup should be vertical to catch water from a drain hole in the bonnet,

As to mpg, currently my 72k 1.6fsi, averages 40mpg about town and higher 40's on long haul.

Andy

PS. I think there is some undiscovered mystical law of nature that states A2 drivers are called Andrew or Steve, with a few unexplained exceptions.

Hi Guys, Thank you all for the reply's and photo much appreciated I now know its the rainwater cup, and not serious although I will attach asap . On the subject of mpg, I have been filling up with supermarket fuel, and have been reading that it runs better on 98 Ron fuel and I will add a fuel injection cleaner on next fill up at same time, probably with v power. 40 mpg would be fine, I must be a lot worse than that, car has don 100k and has FSH. http://

Rainwater cup was correctly installed and I added fuel injection cleaner to a half tank of fresh v power and have been running v power fuel all the time since, what a difference it has made. I have also bought new brighter headlight bulbs which I will fit this weekend and will also change front tyres to Uniroyal Rainsport 3's very soon.
Other than that A2 is going great no other issues or concerns. Thanks for information and help so far.
