A2 Keys...Kent

Hi all, new to this forum but not to the car. Had one many a year back and loved every single minute. Just purchased a 2001 1.4 petrol (with oss) 79k on the clock and pretty much one owner, condition is superb...but having it checked and serviced by our local inde in hextable (kent) ensuring it's all good all round and safe for our son to learn in. He was over the moon being given his Christmas present early so it could improve his driving skills while learning.

Anyways, here's the crux of the matter. The two sets of keys that were provided by the couple selling, neither of the remote functions work. Replaced the batteries in both thinking that could be the main issue as the car was used by an elderly lady who probably used the key only, no luck there. Tried the instructions found on this site, still no luck, so i guess, from all the reading on here, I'll need them both programming? I'm hoping the inde may have the relevant kit, but if not, could anyone be recommended in the Kent area to carry out such programming requirements?

Also, apart from the cars condition, I'm finding the biting point of the clutch incredibly high, way passed what we were used to on our last A2. Had someone do a little test and their comment was plenty of life left on it, but at some stage it will give up the ghost. How can i tell if it's a dmf clutch, or not? hoping not as i understand replacements are a lot cheaper.....

Hope you guys may be able to assist, thanks in advance.
Mark.

I’d be interested to know this as the biting point in Mine is high too! And I took my keys for my last Audi place here. https://www.themasterlocksmith.com they were awesome and got them to quote over the phone and even though there was more work that quoted they still honoured it. Worth giving them a call.

Try the following.

Put the key in the ignition, turn it on, press the unlock a couple of times on the key fob then take the key out and try it straight away.

Repeat with the second key.

If the keys have good batteries and have previously been paired to the car this should work.

Same here, bought the car for my son to learn in, the clutch bites high but is good (122k miles). The car has really got under our skin, we seem to be messing with it every weekend and he isn't even old enough to drive it yet!
Good luck with it.

Cheers, know what you mean, already looking to see what improvements purely as we like the car, he’s only a few assisted drives with us, but he loves it to, want to keep it in ace condition, then I can claim it back when he passes his test, unless he wishes to keep it....

No need to worry about the DMF clutch; only the Tdi 90 has that version.

Thats a relief, thank you. There initial comments, apart from still a little life left in the clutch was circa £380 new clutch, up to late 700 if with DMF, glad my sons car isn't gonna bleed to me dry, that said, I am actually enjoying the drive myself, great car....Thanks for the update, cheers.

Will try this tomorrow Steve B, tried the version of leaving one in the dash and pressing from outside the car, nothing, so will try your method in the morning, fingers crossed. thanks, M

Hi Steve, tried our suggested method, no joy. The locking does however make a sound after the 2nd or 3rd push of lock on the remote, but still nothing on either remote. I'll drop you a line tomorrow if my index has no joy and arrange to pop over and see you if ok. Many thanks anyway, Mark.

Morning Steve,

Car's still in the garage as i've decided to get the belt done whilst in there. Chap has said he's played with the keys and for the life of him, he cannot get the central locking to work. He has had it open once or twice as the key fobs do work, but the cars not accepting it and keeping it, the car does make a slight noise when trying to central lock. He's said he'll need to call out an auto electrician when it's next in (as there's no urgency on the car). Is this something in your remit? I know your able to assist on keys, but if it's something linked to the elecs on the car, is it something you can help with?....
Thanks for your comments in advance, cheers, Mark.

If you are planning to visit the Heathrow / Staines area then I can sort them out for you, non-profit.

Hi Mark,

I know the A2's central locking system like the back of my hand. Given that I'll be seeing you on Friday anyway, don't throw any money at it as I'll be able to pinpoint the problem and/or fix it within a matter of minutes. :)

Cheers,

Tom

Ace, thanks Tom, thought you may have been A/V only, but any help to resolve would be great.
The chaps in germany didn't come back re the cable and have stated its posted. If I'm not your first call on Friday i'll let you know if it's arrived, save you a wasted journey to us, bloody typical, said to them i'd pay more for guaranteed postage, fingers crossed my end, cheers, Mark.

Oh, I definitely do more than just A/V. Take a look at my signature in red at the bottom of this post to get just an idea of some the services I offer. Some of the text is clickable links.

You are my first call on Friday, though I'll be setting off from Twickenham. I'll still make the journey even if the RNS-E stuff doesn't arrive in time, as I'll still be able to do the most specialised part of the job.

Cheers,

Tom

LOL - What Tom doesn't know about the A2s you could fit on a postage stamp ;)

Hope the cable arrives on time, to be honest I had a similar problem with cable availability when I first upgraded the head unit, but it came alright in the end.

Hi,

If Tom is coming then you will not need me!!! LOL

So please ignore my PM I just sent before I read this.

Tom will sort you out for sure.
