A2 and door dents!

So tried glue sticks - to no avail. Seemingly due to aluminium construction you need approximately twice the strength to extract.

Also just got out a PDR specialist who shrugged his shoulders and walked off as almost all the dents are above the line on the doors meaning you cannot get a rod behind them.

Is the only solution a fill and respray ??

Seems very extreme (not to mention expensive and very disruptive for colour) for a door dink!

I remember one year at ADI, one of our members took (full) advantage of a cheap dent removal service being offered and he had several door dents removed by rodding - some were above the crease line and at least one was on the line itself. It can be done, obviously the chap you got out couldn't be bothered.

I have to say his demeanour did suggest he couldn't be bothered now you mention it.

He could have done a couple but his attitude was such that if he couldn't do them all then it wasn't worth doing - and off he went!

Anyone have suggestions for a decent PDR tech north of the border who wont ask for my legs in payment?

We simply found a new door in the same colour on ebay, took 5 mins to fit and it matched perfectly for £45. happy days.

I have used several "Dentists" (as I like to call them).
The results were amazing.

As for above or below etc. I had a significant dent directly above the A2 driver's door handle. I have used "dentists" before and knew they do amazing dent repairs, but this one was so bad I was convinced it would "beat" him (dreadful pun intended), but I was totally amazed at the end result, it was completely undetectable!!

So I KNOW they can do most dents (there are some that they struggle to get a bar behind) but I also know that they should be able to do the kind of work you needed.

To those in the Staines / Heathrow area I have the number of the guy who amazed me!!!

Alas this IS the new door :(

The old door was so bad I decided to take one off Steve for £20 on the basis I would then just get it repaired.

Oh how naive I was!

I'm going to get a second opinion from someone who can also do fill and paint either this week or next.

Right so had another guy out just now to look at the dents.

He is going to confirm later but to me it looks like the location of most of the dents is the issue here.

If the dent is above the line but near the handle then they are accessible via rod. Towards the other end of the door the metal welded sheet protrudes further down the door and i think thats the issue here. i.e. the dents are almost all at the wrong end of the doors so cant be accessed via rod!

They are reluctant to pull aluminium doors via glue as they dont "pull properly"

Looks like these will all be pretty much fill and paint - great...bought the doors off Steve to avoid repainting as well...thats life I guess.

SO back on topic....

Estimates I have for door fill and respray effectively costed up mean a full body respray.

Surely someone somewhere can do something with these dents?

I was planning some diy - how hard can it be?

A place near me colour matched a Tahitian green pearlescent by hand and got the finish PERFECT and it was a couple of hundred quid including paint chip touch ups and fitting a new light. There’s bound to be someone who can do patch repair - mr chips?

yup so the dents need filled, sprayed then blended....effectively means every door is going to get completely resprayed in that case.

I'm more than little annoyed that such a simple series of small dents cant be fixed without such expensive remedial action

Why not bite the bullet and get a full respray of your dreams... Tahitian Green pearlescent is nice - or maybe a nice pink shiny vinyl wrap! Tempted?

I’ve mentioned this company before but you may have missed it, they do the AITP show every year and have taken dents out of my TT with expertise and ease, they really are top drawer!
Maybe give Leon the owner a call and get his opinion, worth a try!

Yup thanks may be cheeky and ask opinion...I would make a point of traveling down to see them if they thought for certain that cold be removed as the cost of pdr is much cheaper.

Ps. I want to see a picture of these dents - how bad are they? If they need filled anyway why not demand he have a go at glue pulling? How much worse can they get?

As someone who details cars any kind of perfection especially ones that I can't fix myself annoy the hell out of me.

I've a pin dent on my door from a previous owner - it bugs me daily. I just wanted to see the shape and size of them - I'm not criticising you for wanting them fixed!
