Hi gents

My names Andy and Im on the hunt for an A2 tdi with all the bells and whistles.

My daily drive is a dub T4 888 special Paprika red which Ive owned for the past 10 years used for work / daily driver etc and then for extra pleasure I have my bike also red vtec VFR both of which I adore.

Ive kind of lost interest in cars over the years but now need an occasional car to share with my girl friend and the A2 ticks all the boxes.

This little alluminion tardis really interests me not only by its amazing design but its all round practicality and cheap running costs too.

So now im hooked and Im looking!

2 questions I need help with please:

Seen one i like but it has no documented cambelt water pump change at 106k worried it may fail on the trip back to the garage, also can the first front glass panel of OSS be replace easily with out taking the whole roof apart?

Answers to the above and a whole load of future questions really appreciated.

Hi Andy,
Welcome along and you’ll soon be hooked by the A2 if not already!
I could stand corrected here but I think the front OSS glass is bonded to the frame so the whole frame would have to be removed, as the cam belt goes it’s worth a gamble for a short journey and change it ASAP if you do get it!
Hope you get something soon!
Cheers Jeff

Hi Andy,

As to the cam belt question, if you're planning on getting it done straight away, I'd not worry about it - having changed a few cam belts and water pumps over the years, I know that the belts on the TDi are pretty robust. The main time of stress for a cam belt is at start-up when it's going from 0 to 1500 rpm in a second or two. If it starts and runs, then it'll likely get you to the garage.

As to the front panel, do you mean the front opening panel or the front fixed panel?

Hi Andy,

Another Andy/Andrew. As I have said before the A2 by some unknown mystical law seems to attract Andrews or Steve with a few interlopers:D

Welcome Andy - Andy

yeah hi

andy s very pop name it seems which is good i s pose but could be confusing too.

The OSS panel Im querying for replacement is the first fixed glass panel at the very front of the roof not the second larger one that moves

The car ive seen has OSS which works sometimes but I like dont mind it fixed but the first panel has shattered which is very annoying indeed.

If you buy a car and in the first drive there is a catastrophic failure of a maintainable item then I think you should be able to claim your money back under trade descriptions as it wasn't fit for purpose.

I'm no lawyer and I suspect this would be more challenging from a private seller than a dealership but maybe ask them for a statement in writing with the receipt that they warranty it for one day and the drive home. You are the buyer so feel free to be a bit demanding. If they aren't confident enough to give even that guarantee I'd be walking away anyway.

Right, the fixed glass panel is not easy to replace, and it's not available as a separate panel from what I know.

However, I do know of one member here who made a claim on his insurance for a rather large stone chip on that panel and they ended up getting new glass entirely and all for the standard excess on their policy.

I suppose you could get a panel from a scrapper and have it fitted, but it'd be a job for a specialist.

Thanks for the info guys, Insurance claim good idea.

I ve found a car on auto trader which i went to view good spec and colour but cambelt and water pump not changed at 109k and owner neglected to mention shattered roof panel which put a spanner in the works for me, Audi don`t do the glass seperatly and Autoglass cant hep either so can get from a breaker maybe and have some one like A2 cars fit it maybe? need to make some more calls!!
