Alloy Wheel Refurbishment - Warrington Area

As per the title really - any recommendations for refurbishment of loose wheels in the Warrington/North Cheshire/South Lancs area?

The wheels are not in need of a great deal of work, just the usual little rash marks and don't need any truing orcrack repairs etc.

Suggestions?

Michael, I used Prestige Wheels in Stockport, not quite the area you have specified

The workshop is out in Furness Vale but they have a Depot off Hillgate, Stockport where cars can be dropped
Last December they had a Facebook 10% offer, which I took advantage of

Thanks for the recommendation Andrew - always good to hear first hand. What sort of prices are we talking these days for a refurb? I'm thinking that it sounds like the same place that Stockport Audi used to use for their body repairs, near Hempshaw Lane.

I had have several sets done at "The Wheel Specialist" in Manchester.
Good attention to detail.
Reasonable price.
Highly recommended!

Simon, I have heard very good things about The Wheel Specialist, Prestige Wheels are a bit more convenient for me.
Michael, I think a back to metal refurb at Prestige Wheels was around £75/wheel (Dec-2016); The Wheel Specialist charged about the same. Both had Facebook discounts just before Christmas.

Andrew
PS they do only wheels, not bodywork: they are at the top of Hillgate near the junction with the A6
PPS for body work, I have been told this place cannot be bettered: Finesse Auto Bodies, Hope Street, Hazel Grove; thankfully haven’t had to use them

Ive just had a quote from a mobile alloy wheel repair specialist. He quoted £40 a wheel which I didn't think was bad...... perhaps another option to consider.

If the wheels aren't in too bad a condition then the mobile service is a real option.

They are cheaper because they just focus on the face of the wheel and a proper refurb would (should) involve an acid bath strip and refurbs the inside and inner wheel areas too.

If your wheel rims are in good condition and will hold air well enough then the mobile option is worth considering.

Mobile repairers will only offer a wheel facia service typically Dave. A light sand and minor fill and repair, light scuffs, and a few coats of paint and lacquer. The benefit of going to a wheel specialist’s premises, if you choose the right one, is that they will chemically strip the wheel back and can perform larger repairs. You’ll get the whole wheel treated this way.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Quite stunned at around £70 per wheel for dipping and repainting - thats more than twice what each wheel cost in the first place!!.

It'll be an after-Xmas thing now so I'll see if there's any offers on in the new year, although I can't do facetube offers as I won't participate in Zuckerberg's data gathering experiment.

It all depends on location Mike. I had mine acid dipped and powdercoated for £180 For the 4.

Embrace Facebook Mike. I fought it for years but they gather information whether you are on Facebook or not.

Smart Tv's from 2014 on are all fitted with hidden internal cameras behind the screen for 'gaming'.

If they want to follow you they can.

I'll have an ask around locally - not really that familiar with the facilities around Warrington yet - if it wasn't for Awesome GTi in Irlam, I'd still be trogging over to Saddleworth for garage services for those jobs I won't do myself.

Facebook embrace - never going to happen here, despise it with every fibre of my being and as to smart TVs, I'm aware of their security implications and have set mine on a static IP address with no outbound traffic allowed from that address. I'm not aware of my generation Samsung tv having a camera, but the microphone is turned off from the security menu as an added layer of reassurance.

I'm aware that government agencies can track me, but I have an issue with private companies doing it and then retaining copyright with anything I choose to post on their platform. I really don't do social media anyway and won't be starting anytime soon.

Thanks for the replies - if I can get 4 done for £150, then I'll do it, otherwise my tight gene will be kicking in.

It may be a tad too far for you, but I've always gone to these guys in Birmingham:

It's a 3 hour round trip for me but the value for money can't be questioned in my opinion. £20 a bare wheel - Chemical strip, Shot blast, Refurbish, Fully powder coat, Powder lacquer. Or £30 a wheel including removal, refitting and re-balancing tyres.

Now that's value. And it would be bare wheels too, so even better. Nice one!!

Glad it's not just me who thinks that about the book of face...

Thats a bargain but what is the quality like? Have you had yours done?

I think between me and the Mrs we've had 5 sets of 4 wheels and tyres done there at least over the last 5 years or so:

Often loading the A2 up for a multiple drop off:

£20 a wheel - I think it's a chuffin' bargain.
