Power steering failure

This morning the steering was rock hard, and the DIS came to life, with that orange steering wheel.

After about a mile or so, the power steering came back to life.
I'm just wondering if it could be that it was -6.0c outside?
Everything else seemed to work just fine, no noises or anything.

Any suggestions?

As far as I can tell .. they didn't really figure out what the fault was? Blamed some fuse, but Skipton didn't get far before it failed again?

Ofc, it could be "Hydraulic pump failure", but bit strange that I've been driving the car all day, and it's been working just fine.

Guess I'll just have to visit my local Audi dealership.

Apparently, water had gathered on the multi-pin connector on the steering control module and had corroded the contacts inside, causing the intermittent fault! They have now replaced both the controller and the plug, carried out a full 4-wheel track and alignment and checked over the rest of the faults.

Although they can't assure me that the problem won't re-occur, I am very glad to have the little fella back again and don't want to have to part, especially for the likes of an A3!
Aha! Thanks a lot! I'll get it checked out first thing tomorrow ^^

Yep - get it looked at asap, especially if it's warrantable as the pump/reservoir/controller cost about £800!!

Cheers,

Mike
