Upgrade of front seats with Recaro S3 sport seats

I do not think the seats of my A2 give any support in bends etc, nore are very comfortable (seat is to short) so i was thinking of putting the recaro S3 seats in it,

I asked on the german site, but due to legislation nobody has done it,

the simple questions are

will they fit, (will the seat rail fit the fittings in the a2
Will the chair fit (is it not to wide)
will the airbag still work
and
as the recaro's are full electric, is this to be done in a A2 (not to bothered yet about the heated seats, more about the electric to move it forward up and down etc

So a lot of questions, but then again it is a big modification, so please help me out

I know that Robin was looking into this mod, perhaps he can provide more information.

As for electrics and airbags, there should be no problems, however, you will need to run in an additional positive feed to suit the seats. The airbags are broadly similar to the existing A2s and are single stage.

Cheers,

Mike

that about the airbags is good news, (that was my biggest worry)

If i can get a cheap enough set i will have a go at it. (most people sell the whole interior - which i do not need)

to most important things to know is

is the rail the same distance
and is the chair not to wide ( i do not see a problem with this on the centre console) it could pose a problem with the door posts

Mike thanks for the info on the airbag

Have you considered the seats from an A4 sport? the ones in mine are possibly even better than the ones in my A2 sport, better lumbar support and you can extend the squab section for under thigh support and tilt the squab indipendently from the backrest, I have seen them on ebay and there are several A4's being broken most of the time.
If you want I could measure my A4 ones up for you

If you could measure that would be perfect,

its the sledge width and the bottom width of the seats that is important to know

Many thanks in advance

HI Havank
yes they will fit as the S3 runners are the same with and the seat is narrower than the A2

cheers

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO :D

MANY THANKS FOR THIS INFO

unfortunately missed three auctions

Will have some S3 seats pretty soon though

Hi Guys,

I will be interested to hear how this goes 'cos I have fitted Recaros to almost every car I have owned since about 1978........ I have almost never bought their own subframes, but never had a serious problem getting them in.
Currently the 350,000 mile old Astra van I used for work has 1/2 leather batwings in it.........

mike (skipton01) did mention that TT seats fit and that if you get leather there fitted with heating elements as standard.

Robin will the seats of an RS6 fit also??

Somebody offered some RS6 seats at a reasonable price, and the heated seat switch is actually on the seat and not on the dash, so that saves some wirering

Don't know but the A3 is FWD so has a transmission tunnel so that is why they will fit the A2

cheers
Robin

I checked the recaro website, and yes yes yes

they still sell the rails for the A2, so i can get them fitted anyway

the good thing is the audi S3 or RS6 seats are standard recaro seats, with embosed lettering for audi

the seats are all the same throughout the audi range

Does anyone have any updates on this?

I have started to look around, originally for RS6 seats given the inclusion of the heated controls within the seat - however, are you sure the heated control is on the seat? Where is it? It sure looks like the control is dash mounted from every pic I've seen

(If you look through the steering wheel on this pic you can just make out the dash and what looks like heated seats control)

The search is still on, and i have done an awfull lot of research, and it is all much simpler than you think (but sometimes this comes with a price)

In principle all recaro's fill fit, wether its from an ford, mini, audi, etc etc

The most important part are the runners,

Some seats are fully electric, which means you have to do more electrics, some have the heated seat button on the chair, which makes its easier, some come with airbags - that is nice, some come without -then you need just a termination plug (audi sell these as well)

So if you go to the recaro website, you can see which runners you need - unfortunately these are not cheap

I almost bought a set from an ford focus st (went for about Gbp 200,, but they are just cloth and i want the leather, (there is another set going this week)

Audi sets are generally more dearer

There are also some very nice bright recaro's (from an honda) on ebay at the moment (front seats only though)

The only problem is the back seats, as there are no recaro sets available for the a2 that also incorporate the back seat, so if you would like to have it all matching, then you have to have it specially made by and upholstery specialist - yes this can easily be done - but costs money)

so the best thing is just the front seats, but of course its much nicer when it all is matching

So what i will be doing is buying a complete set, buy an additional rear seat (cloth) modify the new set, and sell off my leather interior :D

I'd be looking for full electric with the heated seat control actually on the seat as I don't really want to have to source, and replace my climate control unit.

Therefore, from what you've said, it doesn't matter too much what the seats come out of so long as I source the correct runners (which are..?) to fit the A2 and utilise the full-electric adjustment..

Ian
