Well Mike, you have been beaten to it!!!

A German has managed to put a 6 (six) speed gearbox in the little A2 Diesel (Please note that only gearbox changes to the diesel can be done)

All 5 gears are the same but there is an additional 6'th gear which should be seen as some sort of overdrive total costs were between £1,000 and £1,400

See here for the original post and for a video of how it all works

Well in fact all gear ratios changed and are longer now!

So no more too short first gear. Plus “relaxed“ inner-city cruising applying that new 3. gear. The new 4th now should be well suited for country-roads at low motor revs instead of the formerly used "old" 5th. The new 5th achieves just 2000 rpm at 100 kph.

1600 rpm at 100 kph in 6th gear.
There’s a theroretical top speed of 250 kph at 4000 rpm in 6th gear.

stock 90HP gearbox:
1. 3,78 x 3,39 = 12,81
2. 2,06 x 3,39 = 6,98
3. 1,30 x 3,39 = 4,41
4. 0,90 x 3,39 = 3,05
5. 0,70 x 3,39 = 2,37
R. 3,60 x 3,39 = 12,20

new 6-speed gearbox:
1. 3,769 x 2,955 = 11,14
2. 2,087 x 2,955 = 6,17
3. 1,324 x 2,955 = 3,91
4. 0,911 x 2,955 = 2,69
5. 0,902 x 2,407 = 2,17
6. 0,756 x 2,407 = 1,82
R. 4,549 x 2,407 = 10,95

These new gear ratios should work brilliantly in particular with chipped diesels.

155mph

If you wanted a normal Audi that does 155mph, you would have to buy one that has a V6 or V8 (petrol?) engine, not a 3 cylinder 6 valve diesel engine! I wonder how many miles per gallon he averages doing 62mph at 1600rpm? :)

I gues at a very comfortable 60mpg:D:D:D

155mph and 80mpg

155 mph and 80 mpg.:D:D:D

This is hilarious!

Is the 0 to 100kph (62mph) well under 10 seconds as well?

I congratulate the chap - he's proved the theory and beaten me to it (I'll get that sorted on the next year or so).

John, Tanks 0-60 time is sub-8 seconds, so I would imagine that the German A2 is as fast too!

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Guys,

My "other" Audi (not the A2) does exactly 75mph at 3000rpm. Red line is at 6500.

However, although it will pull cleanly through the line in the other gears (limiter @ 6750), I can't get it to pull over 6250 in top.

I should probably expect better; I paid all of £900 for it four years ago, although it has had no more than routine servicing since then.

6 Speed Gearbox in A2

I'd do it/get it done, IF I could find someone competent to do the work for me.

I am on the case
So i will find out how he did it and what other gear box that he used for the six speed

Cheers

£0 tax and 140mph

Looking at the information available for the forthcoming Polo Bluemotion, the five speed box in that does 35mph per 1000rpm in top gear. That's 140mph at 4000rpm. Top speed of the standard car is 109mph. I can't see if that is because it is artificially limited or if the laws of physics dictate and that is all 80bhp will do. I wonder how many will find their way to Stealth to raise their top speed. £0 road tax and 140mph.;)

Yeah please let us know how you get on, as this is one iam interested in,

And if you do it right you can sell loads back to germany :D:D

5 Speed to 6 Speed Conversion

The early VW Lupo 1.6GTi had a 5 speed gearbox, but after about a year it changed to a 6 speed. Not sure which gearbox etc. VW used, but I suspect the 5 speed is the same as used in the A2 1.6FSI.
Is the same 5 speed gearbox used in all A2s except for the final drive ratio to match the higher revs of the petrol versions?
