Central Locking System

:(Hi All,
I bought a 2001 A2 in March and have had continuing problems with the central locking system.

When you lock with the remote the lights don't usually flash as described in the manual, however very occassionally they do and only then do the little LEDs in the door also flash. Usually the the front doors lock, but the rear don't. The only way to ensure that the car is fully locked is to use the drivers side door button.

Sometimes when unlocking and entering there is a sort of relay ticking noise and the internal lights flash in a pulsing manner. Also sometimes when locking with the remote the internal lights a go into a cycle of slowly pulsing.

I have a second remote but that doesn't seem to work - maybe has a flat battery.

Has anyone experienced problems like these and have any idea what the problem might be - perhaps a relay problem?

All the points you make are indicative of a faulty central convenience control unit - the black box under the passenger footwell.

They are prone to failure and replacement is the only option (although not cheap at £225!!!). You will need to have the new unit coded to your car too.

Cheers,

Mike
