Cruise control

I'm picking up my 1.6fsi sport onn saturday and I can't wait!

Does anyone know if it is possible to retro-fit o/e cruise control? My local car electronic shop can fit a custom kit but I would much prefer the genuine one. I know on a lot of vws you just have to buy the control unit and have the on board computer activated for cruise control.

Anyone tried this?

Also, does anyone know where I can get a backbox/system for the 1.6fsi engine? I can only find 1.4's listed.

Hi DESIGN70,

Welcome to the forum. If you try the search option, and tick the archives box, you can find some previous discussions about retro fitting cruise control.

I did a quick check and found these on page 6 & 7 of the results;

Hope that helps

It seems as though there is no definite answer...

I'll ask the dealership when I get the car and see what they say.

I installed it in my 2002 1.4, and it works just fine.

I'll post some more details when I get home in a couple of weeks.

I had a quote from AMD to have it fitted to my 1.4tdi - they checked the engine number on their system and said it was ok but some models are not compatible with a retrofit option. Cost was about £300 without the club discount - I put it off but now wish I had done it as I miss it soooo badly with all the long motorway driving I do for work.
Might well give AMD another call and get it sorted finally esp with the 15% discount!

You're in luck,

I've just got our car (1.6fsi) back from the dealer after getting the OEM stalk fitted.

I got the cruise/indicator stalk from VAGparts. I'd checked with the technical guys at my dealer and they said it was a simple job to wire it into the ECU (if the loom wasn't already in place). They charged about an hour to do it. You need VAGcom to enable cruise in the ECU, but in theopry you could fit it yourself.

I'd imagine that doing this to new cars would be frowned upon by Audi UK as its much cheaper than the option price!
