Air con service

Audi's latest offer is for a service of the air con complete with filter(I should think so too!) for £100 inc Vat. Seems a lot, any comments? Should I take up their offer or seek a specialist air Conner. The Volvo was cheaper than that and I didnt notice any difference.

I have seen some aircon checks/services advertised around here at £60ish. However, the place we have used is more expensive at £80-100 depending on how much refrigerant is used. They are quite good but seem to be putting their prices up year on year.

Many people seem to say that aircon should be serviced every few years. I would think that if it blows freezing cold as it is, then leave well alone! The filter should be done at service time, I would have thought...

Hi
I suspect the £100 will only cover changing the pollen filter and 'sanitising' the ducting and condenser core to kill of mould and bacteria. If it also covers a refrigerant check and re-gassing then it seems very good value.
The A2 air con system seems a bit different from the norm so I would be reluctant to have the re gassing bit done by a 'specialist' not used to working on A2's. For example the shop manual states the compressor must be turned manually 10 revolutions after purging / re gassing the system to avoid damage to the compressor. I personally don't know if this is normal practice or unique to the A2

Cheers Spike

I'll ask them what is included. I know that A2s can be wrecked by people unused to then, also by Audi main agents who are!!! Many previous posts from owners and my own experience proves this.

I e-mailed my local Mr Audi to ask him what the £100 air con service included 24 hours ago. To keep up his usual high standard ----he hasn't replied.
Just as a test I was thinking of ordering an A8 or RS 4 by e-mail to see if it gets the same re-action.
Why do these people push out glossy brochures extolling their wonderful business then act like this, and this is normal, not an isolated case. I suppose I'll have to go there among the swish surroundings and suits and ask them, but in the past they have bull******d me. Can I trust them?
Or should I go somewhere else, such as the main VW agent, or an air con specialist although Spike advises not and I am wary. The air con service on the Volvo cost twice the advertised price, cash only up front, how do I know whether the work claimed was necessary and done? It worked when I took it in and worked when I drove it out.

You could always try doing it yourself with a kit you can get from Halfords.
It comes with instructions and a built in pressure gauge.
Half the time car manufacturers try to baffle us all with bull****,trying to convince us that all work should be done by them basically just to line there pockets.
The kits sold by Halfords are quite common in the States even Walmart sell them! and lots of Yanks quite happily recharge the aircon on there cars themselves with no problems.

Still no reply to my e- mail request for air con service from my local Mr Audi, 48 hours now. I don't think I'll bother with them anymore. I won't be buying my A8 there!
