Dehydrating Climate Control

I currently do a 210 mile round trip commute (don't ask)... but I have been having issues with the Climate Control. When it is on - it really dehydrates my skin (my lips especially). It even does it when on economy mode. The only solution I have found is to open a window (which is a pain when driving around the M25).

(Note this occurs on the 3 A2's that I have driven - 2 courtesy cars + mine)

This doesn't happen to me with my other car's climate system (Saab).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this unique to Audi air conditioning systems? Is there a way to disable the de-humidifier (which I presume is the cause of the issue)?

Not had this problem. But with the car laid up with 3 wheels on I've been using my wifes Fiat with no AC or CC. I can definitely tell the difference and seem to spend most of my journey fiddling about with the heater controls going from hot to cold! CC on the Audi is superb. My only observation is that the fungus smell can ressurect itself if you run in ECON of recirculated for too long.

I learnt the hard way by not keeping the AC on in my old A4 - new compressor needed. Now I run with it on all the time - thats the default way.

Buy a new BMW 5 series when they come out-with rehydrating function!. Whatever next!.

Anyway, to your problem......haven't a clue!. There must be some item on the market or some old wifes tale that allows portable rehydration.

On long journeys (I have to travel 230 km to reach my project) I bring a bottle of water to drink.
That surely hydrates.

Have'nt experienced any problems running with Econ all the time. Only use AC when it's hot ambient ( wastes fuel otherwise!!)I've always got bottles of water on board ( and consequently stop regularly- seem to spend a lot of time standing in hedges!!!)
So maybe that's the answer- drink lots of fluid.

I think that using the aircon uses less fuel than driving with window open, and also if you open window to far at certain speed you get buffeting (boom boom noise- sound like a teletubby now!)

Climate control does take the moisture out of the air (which prevents windows misting) so as you say on a long journey you probably would get dry skin.

Might need to ask a lady for some face cream-they always seem to have a bottle for every thing!

I also find it a little dehydrating, mainly with dry eyes. But, there again when you work in an ECC office you soon get used to it all day long.
