Today I.....

I’m getting ready to change out the front shocks and springs on Rosie as she’s got a broken spring. I’ve bought this to help with the awkward bolts on the top mounts. Apart from spraying plus gas around the captive nuts what suggestions do you have to make this job a bit easier….?

You can try soaking with diesel and oil mixture. But I had a captivated nut start to spin and used a Silverline finger sander belt to get in and sand it off. A real PITB. Also cut away enough of the sound dreading on the bulkhead to get a good square on purchase on the bolt heads.
Something good to kneel or lay on as you'll be there a while. My worst side was the passenger side, just removed or moved as much as I could on the driver's side.

Impressive work, and I like the Logo and colour matching. I have a dash swap coming up so may fit a power/usb socket in the top panel for convenience if ever required.

I was thinking of putting one in the side of the dash centre if I can, just need to remove the vents/cup holders to check were there's the most space 👍

Afternoon,

I completely agree that it’s such a great colour. This is exactly why I decided to obtain a second one haha. The choose was between the Project EYV A2 or a factory white A2, you obviously know which one prevailed to win me over. It’s a shame that I had to trim the fleet and say goodbye to the Project OEM A2 but I’m sure someone will enjoy it soon enough

Kind regards,

Tom

Today I...managed to fit orange front jacking points and then changed: front shocks, springs, top mounts, track rod end, antirollbar bushes, found bottom shock holding bolts very worn...any suggestion on part no for those?

Evening,

That’s a fine days work which you’ll benefit from straightaway. Very satisfying task to complete. Love the orange jacking points.

Kind regards,

Tom

Today was NOT a good car day :(

First, at my partner Lynette's house in Chesham, my lovely Volvo C70 convertible was most likely written off by a runaway DPD Sprinter van, which rolled back down the hill while the driver was out making a delivery. The Volvo was pushed sideways into her Yaris, so it has damage on every panel both sides, with a huge mess where the driver's door was. The Yaris has a load more minor cuts & grazes to add to its collection but is luckily still perfectly useable now that I've pulled out the front and rear wings. Thank goodness, no-one was injured. We had been about to load up the Volvo to take her daughter back to Uni in Derby: if I'd been checking the tyre pressures beforehand as I usually do, I shudder to think what the situation might be right now 😖

Eventually we ended up taking the Yaris to my house in Leighton Buzzard and picking up my Crystal TDI75 for the rest of the journey to Derby. While fitting a rear seat to it for the second passenger, I noticed some mould on the boot floor carpet ... and a look underneath revealed a battery tray with about 2" of water in the bottom 🤬🤬🤬 And this despite @timmus and I having put sealant around the rear vents when we installed the PDC rear bumper last Autumn! I've now sponged out the water as far as possible, I just hope my Diversity unit and particularly the BOSE sub are OK ...

Bloody hell, yip, you was lucky re the putting air in the tyres.
As you might know, get a few of those cheap moisture things, the ones with the peel back tops in the boot area , they used to be around 99p from BnM bargain types of shops.
I assume you got all his details.

Firstly, good to hear no one is injured as it could have been so much different. Next question has Crystal got OSS? I had water getting in and trickling down near the back side window panel, as the car was Sorn at the time I drilled a few 6 mm holes in the battery trying as it's only GRP so water in water out. It stayed like this until Adam K worked through his OSS fix list which solved the leak 👍 only to find the one via the rear vents behind the bumper. These A2 like to test us. Hope you find & fix yours soon. Is one side of your rear seats wet? That's what I found on the vent seal issue.

Tday I'm planning to replace rear wheel bearings so my Q is: are they same for drum and disk type as I have some left over from tdi75?

I assume you got all his details.
Name and phone number, I can get the policy from AskMID (for a nominal fee) anyway. Having filled in the claim last night, my insurers have already responded that they're treating it as a total loss, before I've even sent them any photos. They'll doubtless way undervalue it and I'll have to go after his insurers to recover its real value.

She's a tin-top, which is why this has surprised me so much. I run around in van-mode nearly all of the time with polythene over the boot floor, because we do the supermarket waste food run for the local community fridge fairly often, but I very rarely have a second passenger. I'll have to investigate further soon: with the events of yesterday I haven't had any time so far except to sponge out what water was there.

Good luck with chasing the leak. It can be a right pain. Difficult to know what it is in the boot of a tin top if you and Timmus have sealed the vents.
Glad the van missed you

G
