Well I got a second hand alternator and fitted it yesterday and 90% of the noise has gone. While doing it I noticed the tensioner pulley had seen better days and the belt had a little split.
It was the alternator making the noise as the over-run pulley was fairly new but rounded on there.
I couldn't find a 140amp so bought a 120 and will change at some point if needed.
