Today I.....

Today we took Ethel out for a Sunday drive to The Motorist, Sherburn in Elmet. She looked right at home amongst the classics and this would make a great location for a mini Yorkshire Social weekend meet up. 👍 :)

Thanks to @timmus Tom for posting a replacement visor and clip assembly rapidly last week!

(in case you’re wondering, that’s one of those umbrella-type windscreen shades - I find Audrey’s interior gets very warm on a sunny day without it!)
Excellent. It's like that accident never happened. :)

Another school day for me as I needed to strip the centre console of its trim panels and lift it out so I could chase the cable I have made up for the electric lumbar through from the passenger to driver side. As it happened I didn’t need to completely remove the console but just lift the back up enough to thread a chaser wire though, attach the loom and carefully pull it though. Well chuffed and nothing broken

I would have finished today but the earth eyelet’s I bought aren’t big enough. The earth point in the bottom of the passenger A pillar is much bigger in real life to how it appeared to me in pictures!

Have some on order so should be able to complete this week with a bit of luck. I’m going to leave the panels off as it occurred to me it might be possible to chase the looms I need to make for the seat heaters down the centre console. Not sure if that’s how Audi did it on factory fitment but could be possible by the looks of things

Resolved the door locking itself

I have just driven my petrol 1.4 SE on its first long journey in my care, to consider if I should promote it to my primary car (replacing my 2018 Up GTi)

Initial observations are:-

1) A much more comfortable drive than the Up, which is incredibly jiggly on the motorway and bangs over the slightest road imperfections.

2) A much quieter ride, as the Up has an incredibly loud tyre noise.

3) Excellent fuel economy, North Gosforth (Newcastle) to Heathrow via A1M/M1 292 miles driven - fuel gauge just touching 1/2 - filled with 21.5 litres ( I understand 42 Litre tank) = 61.74 MPG. Quite impressive I think.

The only observation for the forum members is the slight “tappety” noise of the petrol engine more noticeable at lower speeds. As I have not driven another, I don’t know if this is normal?

My question, not knowing what oil was used on the last oil change is……. Would and oil change to one of the manual approved specifications improve this or is there any value in trying something like Liqui moly hydraulic lifter additive?

Many thanks 👍

I have that additive in delivery, will let you know if it works. I noted that engine got slightly less noisy after switching from audi-recommended 5w30 to 5w40, actually

edit: more viscous oil has been well documented on this forum

61 mpg in a 1.4 is incredibly impressive.
The best I’ve ever achieved in my 1.4 is 55mpg, and only then a handful of times when hypermiling on long distance trips. Cruising at 55-60mph, coming off the throttle well before any turns/ junctions to reduce the use of the brakes, using super unleaded fuel, etc
