Possible write off :(

Wife had an accident in the Audi A2 today , luckily she is ok , but the same can't be said about my A2 .

Woman pulled out without looking on to main road hitting the A2 :(
Hoping it won't be a write off .

Damaged the front headlight , bent the bonnet , Votex front spoiler crack , front bumper scratched and crack BADLY .

From your experience as A2 owners and pros , can you tell me from what you see if it could be a write off ? Hopefully its not .
Also if it is a write off can someone explain how I can buy it back from the insurance and how much for ?

Just waiting for insurance to call back

Yikes but, glad to hear there have been no injuries, that's the most important thing.
Do you know if anything under the bonnet has been damaged?

Does the bonnet still remove and lock ok but for the dent?
I guess if the space frame is not bent it there is nothing too serious.
My bumper was worse than that when I had someone pull right out in front of me on ice. Also my car suffered from a broken radiator and my insurer fixed it.
I'm not driving in the UK but here the repair costs make English prices look ok.
My bumper, inner aluminium bars, bonnet and radiator were replaced. Has the light housing moved or is it smashed?
If the glass is intact that should be ok too...

It is the damage that can't be seen on the surface that is most crucial here.

I hope that your car gets repaired and that all is ok. Shouldn't it also help that the other party hit your car?

Wow, sorry to hear about the car, most important is everyone is ok though.

Get a bit of t-cut and it'll buff out!!

First dibs on the VOTEX kit?
(Joking).

As per comments above ^, on the surface (literally) it looks vaguely ok-ish - but any structural damage and the numbers quickly become uneconomical..

Hope it turns out ok.

Cheers, Hedge

:O First dibs !!!!

We shall see lol

If car is write off how does it work to buy your car back ? how much ?

Apparently this is becoming common-place these days as people seek to maximise possible personal injury payout due to the almost impossible to genuinely diagnose "whiplash".
If there are CCTV cameras on the road, is there any way you can get access to the footage before it gets deleted?

When I used to buy back written off cars the insurance company would write it off if the work cost more than half the value of the car. The garage has to price for genuine Audi panels and parts and they all have to be new. This means they would not just tap out and fill the corner of the bonnet but buy a new one.

The damage looks fairly minor but there may be some damage behind the scenes.

Make it clear that you do not want the car written off at every opportunity. Then if they push to write it off just tell them you want to buy it back. They should offer you the price of the car then a price for the buy back which will be alot less leaving you enough to get it fixed sensibly on a local body shop and probably pocket a few hundred.

Make sure they don't register it as a write off or what you are buying back will be worth less!! unless you are getting a great deal and the sell on value of the car is less of an issue.

Bogus PI claims are the single biggest reason yours/ my insurance premiums are escalating.

We employ a person solely at our Motor Syndicate to sit on Facebook all day every day, scouring the stories that numpties put up about their bogus claims. Yes, you read that correctly. Last year this bloke saved us >£400k in fraudulent claims. He's now on an earner, as it were.

The stuff that people put up via social media sites such as FB, Twitter is nothing short of incredulous. So unbelievably dim to brag about your latest scam etc.

Anyway, massively off topic, apologies.

Paul,

Sorry to hear of this but pleased your wife is OK.

If the damage is only as per the photos and no airbags have been deployed, then I'd say you'll be OK.

It's not worth worrying about a write-off until the assessor has given his verdict.
As the car has not been towed to a 3rd party garage you'll also not have to worry about bits going missing.

If the worst happens, as long as it's not a CAT B write-off (which would be serious damage), you'll be able to haggle with the insurer to buy it back.

Again, sorry to hear this bad news.

Cheers

Best option for the CCVT is a quick FOI (freedom of information) request to the local council or police, depends on who monitors them, and if they are even stored...some are real time viewing only!!

Police went straight to local garage who had cctv , said cameras was down, there was a tall white pole with black ball , think its cctv . Police are on my side .

Thanks Jeff ,

As I am new to claiming on insurance :) Can someone explain this " Buy it back " what sort of price would they ask for it ? I have valued the car at £3k .

Thanks

I do some work with the police, camera down is a common reply, its often too much trouble to get involved with making copies of tapes and the like, so some people tend to say either its broken or (possibly to avoid DPA) they don't store the data.

If there is a pole with a ball shaped camera on the top is probably local council, our local one is and the police refer to it as November Victor... Check near the base there should be a sign saying CCTV in operation and a number to call, police should know all this though...

If they said its a write off I would buy it back then break it . Good excuse to get A2 TDI .

But hoping its fixable

Spent over £1000 in the last couple of months sorting out all the niggling bits ABS , tyres etc ...... Finally got it in PERFECT running order , no warning lights and drives like new then this happens :(

Can someone also tell me if the repair cost is less than my excess what happens ?

Thanks

... I have valued the car at £3k . ...

Beware that some insurance companies will tend to ignore your valuation and ask a third-party to provide a very low one based on some shed they presumably saw on ebay or scrapyard. So be prepared to justify it with copies of ads, photos, etc. I'm still very bitter about the terrible valuation I got when somebody drove into the back of my A4 a few years ago, it was absolutely impossible to buy a similar car for what they offerred me. I find it hard to understand the difference between insurance fraud and the behaviour of the insurance companies themselves with the valuations. I would love to say "OK, if that is your valuation, get me a car at that price". Not to mention that the ***** insurance company sold my details to the personal-injury lawyer scum who then kept pestering me for the next couple of years to claim for a nonexistent injury even though I kept telling them to ***** ***. GRRR. It still makes my blood boil when I think about it.

However, I agree with the above, superficially at least, the damage looks light and my guess is that they won't write it off.

... Can someone also tell me if the repair cost is less than my excess what happens ? ...

As long as it is the other person's liability, the excess/repair cost should be paid back to you (you probably will need to claim this back specifically if the garage charged you the excess).
If they do it as joint liability, or as your wife's liability, then you lose the cost of the repair / excess (whichever is lower).
