Earth tag below NS light?

Hi,

Can someone tell me the exact location where the large Earth tag connection is supposed to be below the passengers side headlamp? Cause it looks like I don't have one.

I have an intermittent misfire and I'd thought I try this mythical creature first.

Photos would be good!

I looked through the forums as much as I could but, I am still none the wiser.

Thank you.

Doug

Hi

it is not actually under the headlamp. It is just that you remove the headlamp to get a better view.

Look where you see the ABS unit (the unit with all of the metal brake pipes going into it.)
On the metal structure behind that you should find the single large diameter earth wire.
It is bolted onto the face of the main structure but behind it and the bolt head is facibg away from you.

Its a bit of a pain to see if youv got air con, remove the N/S headlamp, look through hole where the headlamp was and youl see the air con pipes if fitted , its under these,
bassically look along the chassie leg , about a foot back from the front and down the side on the outside edge of the chasie leg .

If you cant find it message again and ile get you a picture of the location as tinkering today and fixing a few bits and bobs

Thank you Gary & SteveB, that's a better description, found it, and it looks ok but, I will remove and clean anyway.

I couldn't see due to a large piece of black tape so guess someone has tried to shield it at some point.

All the best!

Doug

Thank's SteveB

Much better description!

P's can you send me a link on how you managed to fit your S-Line steering wheel?

Do the functions work, CD/Radio volume control etc?

Thank's

Hi Doug,

i paid a company called Hazzydayz to fit it.

But there are a few people on here that might be able to help with what is needed but it is a "black art" to me.

Yes, everything functions as it should, even the dimmable illumination.

While on the subject of earth points i came accross a dozey of a main earth point a few weeks back, mentioned no where i might add, its under the dash, the dash needs to be removed to see or access it, its under the passengers side quarter glass against the side of the car, right above the heater motor tucked right in the depths of the A2, ile take a photo offending earth point and add it for reference tommorz ... Unsure what its actually for, but it is one of the main heavy earth leads .. someone with more knowledge may know what its for and why its so hidden..

Its hidden right up above the heater fan side flap motor, just under the top face of the dash

Hi Steve & guy's,

It's my intention to input as much as I can to help others on here, I'm no mechanic but, can use a spanner or two, I've always had quirky cars and the A2 is the latest although I have had a baptism of fire with it to say the least, anyway I'm happy to help and I appreciate your welcome and all the help you all can give, a big THANK YOU for that!

My first post was about the burst water pipe at the back of the engine, I've taken photos of this and will post them and the procedure to replace the pipe and all the trouble that went with that very soon.

I will read all the other links regarding Earth prob's and mod's given in this thread as soon as possible.

Thank you all!

All the best

Doug

Thank you so much for this thread. My A2 1.4tdi had a slow-starter problem when I bought it. I replaced the starter motor which cured the issue, but it soon returned. Lately, it just refused to start. I suspected an earthing problem, as when the key was turned to P3 to start the car, no lights dimmed, the fan didn't slow, etc... I found and disconnected the earth cable to discover the bolt/washer extremely corroded. There was even spots of weld spatter where it had obviously been arcing to earth. I didn't have a suitable M8 bolt to hand and needed the car back on the road, so I've just cleaned everything up for now, had to use an angle grinder on the mating face of the bolt/washer! My car now bursts into life as soon as the key is turned and appears to run smoother. Thanks all!
